018 Draft Names to Watch

RHP Kumar Rocker, N Oconnee HS, Georgia.

Possibly goes top 10 but is a big, physical SP with ace potential. Moore and co. will be all over him if he slips a bit and could offer top 10 money at No. 16

OF Jarred Kelenic, Waukasha West HS, WI

Kelenic is the top prep bat, toolsy OF. Royals would be ecstatic to have shot at him.

1B Triston Casas, American Heritage HS (FL).

Tremendous raw power, best in HS bats. Royals typically like HS arms or HS bats with "special" tools. He qualifies.

RHP Carter Stewart, Eau de Gallie HS (Ga).

Another big, physical specimen with huge upside. More likely to be available mid-first than Rocker.

ANY Any, Any (Any). Any current top projected pick who slides for injury concerns. Includes current top prospect prospect SP Brady Singer, U of Florida.

Current Prospects to Watch:

OF Seuly Matias - Huge tools. Hit 2 HR in Lexington (A) season opener.

1B Nick Pratto - Top pick in 17 has advanced approach and good glove; needs to start tapping into power in first full year in minors. Also at Lexington.

OF Michael Gigliotti - Good defender in CF, good OBP skills, plus baserunner. Next mainstay in CF for KC, IMO. Advanced college bat also starting at Lexington.

OF Khalil Lee - Probably has highest upside in Royals' system. Could hit 30 HR in majors, could steal 30 bases. Plus defensive ability in RF. Nice test at Wilmington this year.

3B Emmanuel Rivera - Really nice approach and good contact skills. Power is still developing. Also getting a good test at Wilmington.

SP Foster Griffin - Made nice strides in 2017. Needs to continue to progress in 2018. Could be a lefty version of Jakob Junis (good breaking ball that he can really manipulate, OK fastball, good command).

1B Samir Duenez - Duenez still is intriguing, hoping for a step forward in his power production this year at Northwest Arkansas, which would turn him into a legit prospect.

SP Gerson Garabito (Wilmington), OF Marten Gasparini (Lexington), C MJ Melendez (Lexington), RP Tyler Zuber (lexington), RP Richard Lovelady (Omaha), SP Dan Tillo (Lexington), SS Nicky Lopez (NWA), SP Scott Blewett (NWA), OF Brewer Hicklen (Idaho Falls),

In general, Lexington and Wilmington are the most interesting spots to watch. Nice depth and a lot of interesting pieces at both.

He's now 157th most valuable regular out of 161. Alshittys is one of the 4 shittier players btw. And Hoz defensive metrics? Still shit! So we can drop the tired excuse he "guarded the line" a lot late in our games cause our bullpen was so good.



One last thing: he's 1st of 161 regulars in GB/Fly ratio. 3.56x

The KC #Royals say they have no intention in trading starter Danny Duffy, and plan to keep him in KC.

I really hope this is just a negotiating tactic and not their true intent.

Level of interest for Moustakas is only a good thing. Should inflate the price a bit, though I still wouldn’t expect anything huge.

Something along the Britton/Herrera lines seems likely to me, but JmO.

I'm one of those guys that believe "if it's not broke, don't fix it". I like the results from the five starters since the all star break;

Junis
Keller
Filmyer
B. Smith.

Three rookies and a second year guy. Duffy is the veteran.
I'd ride this until one of them falls apart.

But what's the point in holding on to a valuable asset when clearly the entire team is broken? Duffy's almost 30, do we really think he's going to headline our rotation by the time we're competitive again? Heck, he's probably a free agent by the time we're any good. There's also a high chance of him finally breaking down or at least declining with age before we're competitive, so I'd rather get a good return while we have a chance. Of course you don't trade him if you get shitty offers.

I'd be pleased with a similar return to what we got for Herrera considering many people didn't really expect much of a market for Moose.

You make good points. But, if there is any chance that Duffy is having an affect on those other four young starters, in my opinion, he'd be worth keeping. And, it's not like Duffy has to be traded during this season or even this off season. You could trade him July of 2019.

We won't be anywhere close to being ready to compete before both of these guys lose the majority of their value in the next 3 years. Clear the entire board and start over.

What if the Yankees came calling for Perez in the next few days? With Sanchez's issues, you have to wonder if they might be in the mood for an upgrade at that position.
