Unique Military Weapons

Cant recall ever seeing a thread on this topic so i thought it was time we had one... this thread is dedicated to military weaponry of any kind, from any era or nation.

There is a seemingly endless array of novel, fascinating, revolutionary or even ill-fated hardware out there so subject material shouldnt be a problem.

First entry coming up shortly...

Thanks for the link. I stumbled onto this railgun doing some research on Dora and Leopold rail guns for a scale model build I'm contemplating. The Blizter gun has a muzzle velocity of Mach 7! It's been pretty interesting reading about it. They get the kinks worked out of it, it will be a game changer.

I saw the F-22 F-35 flying and the F-23 static in Omaha last month. They still look like toys to me....

In a few documentaries I have seen the YF-23 was superior to the F-22 but Lockheed Martin was a lot more aggressive in showing off it's abilities.

Oh, and Northrop fisted the military on cost overruns with the B-2.

From a purely aesthetic point of view, I just dont like the 23, it looks like it isnt quite sure what it wants to be... is it a flying wing, or a more traditional fighter?

The reading I've done on it suggests it did have some advantages like better range and low speed maneuvering, but all in all the 22 is the much prettier bird IMO

Legendary pilot Chuck Yeager gave his take on the F-35 the other day in 3 terse words on twitter...

"waste of money"

Still many doubters about it out there, but its hard to not be swayed by recent reports like the ones coming out the Red Flag event where they absolutely dominated everything, including SAM sites

https://theaviationist.com/2016/07/1...rs-every-time/

http://www.geek.com/news/f-35-pilots...althy-1665077/

It certainly has been slow in coming, but lately it looks like once they eventually get the expected sensor, data fusion capabilities and flight performance upgrades, it'll almost be like a ghost... "you cant fight what you cant see"

Aim-54 Phoenix missile, that could only be carried by the f14 tomcat for fleet defense. the deadliest conventional air to air missile in our inventory (retired lol) one tom cat could take out one Soviet bomber and 5 cruise missiles from over 100 miles away.

On iPad can somebody embed please

I tried, bro... embedding disabled by request

But man, the F-14 was a damn good looking bird in its own right, how cool were those folding wings!
