Not sure where Clowney gets this overinflated sense of worth. Is it still because of that one monster hit in college and his draft position? Because he put up a measly 3 sacks last year and has never had double digit sacks in a season. I don't care if you're an all around player and solid against the run, sacks are what get a DL paid. The fact that he thinks he's worth what the top end DL are getting paid is ridiculous.

I'm not sure why some people think that Schwartz and Fisher are "old" and need to be replaced in the next two years.

Fisher is 29 years old and still playing at an above average level. Schwartz is 30 and is playing at an All Pro level, while offensive lineman can play well into their 30's neither has indicated they're planning to retire any time soon.

I don't understand why the Chiefs, who are definitely in "Win Now" mode after just winning the Super Bowl, would spend the #32 overall on a player who may not be needed for 2, 3 or 4 years down the line.

If the Chiefs stay at #32, there will be plenty of options for players that can start and contribute immediately and if they trade back to acquire multiple picks, there will still be plenty of players in rounds 2, 3 and maybe even 4 that can contribute this season and most likely, start Day One (well, IF there's a day one).

Cutting Kirkpatrick saved the Bengals $8.2 million in cap space. He's 30 years old and was cut in favor of Xavier Rhodes and Mackensie Alexander, two players cut by the Vikings this offseason for underperforming.

Kirkpatrick was never the fastest CB in the game and ran a 4.51 at the Combine in 2012. He might be a guy the Chiefs would look at on a Vet Minimum deal and at this point in his career, he's probably better suited as a Safety that could occasionally drop into the Slot position.

I'd like to think he could be a serviceable stop gap while we bring along some young developmental guys like fenton if we get some guys late in the draft.

Are people saying we need an OT early? Because I, for one, am asking for an interior OL at some point, but not necessarily round 1 unless that just happens to be the BPA at that point. But I have seen people ask for an OT that could play on the inside for a while, which isn't awful. And that player could still be taken in the 2nd or 3rd, especially if we trade down.

Schwartz and Fisher aren't "old", but they're still getting closer to the age where injuries COULD become more likely. And whether we like it or not, depending on where they choose to focus their spending down the road it could be possible that it's just not viable to sign both to extensions once they hit the market in a couple of years. We may or may not have the cap room to sink $13-14 million a year, or $25+ million combined, into our two starting tackles. So while it's not what we necessarily want, because both are excellent players, it's a conversation worth having at some point. Maybe that isn't this year, but in a year or two an OT could be considered a bigger need than we might initially think. And if we find an OT that could slide inside and start right away, perhaps that player could still be taken this year.

There are still a lot of "Ifs" that need to be determined. But as it stands right now, the Chiefs have 5 draft picks in total, which doesn't leave them any room to move around while having only $177 dollars in cap space.

IMO, they need to draft towards the strength of this draft so that those players chosen can step in immediately and play at a championship level, especially those chosen in the first three rounds.

Now, IF they move down from #32 and collect another 3rd and 5th, they'll have some wiggle room and won't necessarily need to make sure their second 3rd rounder, 4th and two 5ths need to be ready Day One. That would will allow them to add some developmental pieces such as a Guard, Center and an extra CB.

And IF they can clear some cap space, there are plenty of guys out there like Jason Peters and others that may not mind playing for Vet Minimum or thereabout for the Super Bowl favorite.

But at this point, with only 5 draft picks and zero cap space, they need to hit in the first three rounds and preferably, the 4th as well, which doesn't leave them much room for depth and developmental players.

2021 will be a whole new world. The Chiefs will have a full compliment of draft picks plus several Comp Picks, along with a cap increase of at least $10 million (if not $20 million). 2021 would be, to me anyway, a more ideal time to consider drafting a tackle for the future.

whoa whoa whoa.

Nobody is saying that. What people are saying is that we are a couple years out from having both those guys as free agents and the it might not be best to hand out big contracts to them. The time to start that rebuild is now, not at OT, but with the IOL. Get a building block that you can start to build from. It helps you win now, and continue winning when we might have to part ways with one or both these guys.

I think trading down from 32 makes sense, because watching the mock draft, I think its the second round where you are going to want the ability to trade up to get they player you really want.
