What would you think if a 6-10 team won the Super Bowl? At what point does having a regular season even matter then? Just have a big long tournament.

People already get upset because 8-8 teams make the NFL playoffs every few years. If you go back and look over the last 10 MLB years, pretty much every year there'd be teams with losing records in the playoffs.

I mean, people love the NCAA tournament where 6 seeds have won. The nba season is completely irrelevant every year and no one seems to care. I actually think fans would love it if the plucky royals made the last playoff spot and beat the yanks in the first round. Best way to crown a champion? No. Entertaining? Probably.

Didn't the 2010 Seahawks finish 7-9? They even won a playoff game vs the Saints where Lynch earned the nickname "Beast mode" with that crazy run.

Trial run for when they expand to 32. 4 division winners, 4 wildcards. Keep people interested in baseball longer. Besides playoffs in baseball is the best.

Apparently not. People lose their shit when garbage teams, some of which get 9th in their conference advance in the NCAA Tournament or make the Final Four.

I've been saying for years how stupid it is that so many teams get in the NCAA Tournament. About 58 too many.

Having more teams makes it more "wild" and anyone can win.

But having more teams also makes it less likely that the best team actually comes out on top. I don't know why many people need that concept explained to them but see March Madness.

I don't like dilution to that level either.

On the flipside, in 2017 the 80-82 Royals, Rays and Angels would have made the playoffs. That's three teams with losing records in the playoffs. If you just look through the standings pretty much every year this change would put teams with losing records in.
I quickly looked at the last 10 seasons and I think there was one season when no sub-.500 would have made it. Several years had more than one sub-.500 team.

2017 had 4 teams--Royals, Rays, and Angels as you mentioned, plus the Marlins with 77 wiins.

The worst was a 76-win Padres team in 2013.
