Exactly.
I think Mark had a better sense of who his character was than the director. He went with it and did his best (and I agree Hamill is very good in the film and his scenes - along with Snoke scenes - are my favorites). I was involved in developing a television show about a beloved and very iconic character and the studio who financed it brought in a showrunner who had a new take that was wildly inconsistent with who this character had been over the previous decades on film. Not surprisingly, the changes led to the network not picking up the pilot. The point I made at the time was that Godzilla can't be 7-feet tall and James Bond isn't German. There are some times that a character is what it is and shouldn't be changed just for the sake of changing the character. As I've said before, however, I'm not one of those who was wildly offended by the direction that RJ took with Luke. I agree with Kevin Smith that the moment at the end would have had more weight had Luke actually been there, but it was a creative choice. |

Based on studio estimates, STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI won the 3-day weekend, $52.4M to $50.5M.
But JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE won the 4-day weekend, including Monday, $67.0M to $65.5M. https://www.facebook.com/boxoffice/p...82187488486321 The Negative Word of mouth for this movie is strong. And may solo suffer for the sins of this movie. |

No one in the resistance knew of Luke's lineage at the time of the medal ceremony. He was just a moisture farmer and no one knew han for shit. He was just a smuggler... not a "world class smuggler". |

I think you are emphasizing a difference that the casual fan was completely unaware of. I doubt there were very many people in the world that didn't go to RO because it was mearly a "Star Wars story" and not the Skywalker saga.
