Poor shot selection and turnovers are killing them

We have zero plan on offense. We dribble the ball and pass around the arc and then settle for guarded shots and 3 pointers only. Granted a lot of our offensive issues are limited by not having a PG that is Div I quality, but we are still just so freaking lost on offense. There was a point last night in the first half when I looked at our stats...it was with 4:30 seconds left before halftime. We had only made TWO 2 point buckets. Geist had made a couple 3 pointers, Barnett had made 4 and Puryear had hit a couple free throws.
The other thing that killed me was the lack of taking advantage of the foul situation Auburn was dealing with...they had 7 fouls by the 8 minute mark in the first half and we continued to just throw up 3's and contested shots outside with no one actually driving the ball. Exact same scenario in the second half as well with no taking advantage of going inside. That's of course when we actually got a shot off and didn't turn the ball over. I know the knock on Cuonzo was that he wasn't a good offensive coach, and he's dealing with a seriously flawed roster, but I'm starting to get a little disappointed in our game plan (or lack thereof) and execution. There must have been 4 different instances where we turned the ball over immediately after a TO last night. And playing CVL, Nikko and and Puryear in the same rotation leads to an immediate run by the other team EVERY single time. Overall, it's good to care again. But jesus this team is frustrating. |

Mizzou doesn't have the guard play, that's the problem. You can only work so many recruiting miracles your first year.

I was there last night. I was in the "Tiger Row" seats right next to the court. Pretty awesome, man. My general take on the game: Auburn has much better athletes. They were quicker, better passers, more athletic, better shot blockers and just superior talent. Harper their point guard is a very good player. They shoot a LOT of three balls. If they get into the NCAA and have an off shooting day, they are screwed. They have two tall guys, and one of them is a leaper #24, can't remember his name. and the other, #0, is tall but not very strong. Bruce Pearl was a maniac on the sideline the whole game. He dresses like a used car salesman. Mizzou got within one point in the second half, but then Auburn just downshifted and put like a 24-2 run on and pulled out. Game Over. At least Mizzou has some talent, but they need a point guard bad. Real bad. Here's a couple pictures from my seats last night:

Tilmon has 40 points and 30 fouls in SEC play. A player with that much talent shouldn't be that bad.

Cuonzo is always good for a dozen or more losses.

Tried, really tried to watch that shitfest from start to finish. I bleed Old Gokd and Black, but expectations are gone now. NIT? Hardly. Another lost year. I’m getting old. |

But you have to admit, its a big improvement. Especially after having to totally change the offense when MPJ got hurt. We'll see if Cuonzo can recruit guards now.

Phillips just got suspended indefinitely. So now we’re down to Geist and Robinson
