It's about what is best for the Chiefs not Mahomes. Mahomes is one player who isn't even going to play this season. He will play when he is ready but still a team game. Always will be.
You don't think that doing their best to ensure that Mahomes doesn't turn out to be a bust aligns with doing what's best for the Chiefs?

Then the mantra of "All Alex Smith does is win" is complete bullshit.

Ryan Tannehill’s MRI this afternoon to determine the extent of his new left knee injury proved inconclusive, requiring further study, and all options remain on the table per multiple sources.

That means that in the worst-case scenario, it could still be determined that Tannehill needs surgery on his left knee. It could also mean, however, that the quarterback could once again avoid surgery and find a way to get back on the field this season.

Reports that Tannehill basically got a clean bill of health from the MRI are not correct at this time because further examination of that MRI may give a specialist pause.

Tannehill’s MRI result and perhaps even the player will be examined by more doctors before a final determination is made and a plan for recovery is drawn up.

League sources tell the Sun-Sentinel that Ryan Tannehill hyperextended his knee, but the MRI revealed no ligament damage for Miami's starter

For Tannehill... I feel like as chiefs fans we've seen this first hand. Without surgery he is ****ed. And with surgery he's probably missing the season

Doing what is best for Mahomes is what is best for the Chiefs. The long term success of the team rides on him more than any other player.

The Miami Dolphins appear to have avoided a major scare, as an MRI revealed starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill didn’t suffer ligament damage when he went down during Thursday’s practice, but there is still uncertainty about his timetable to return and the stability of his left knee.

Tannehill hyperextended the knee during Thursday’s practice, a league source confirmed to the Sun Sentinel, sending fans and members of the Dolphins franchise into a panic. It’s the same knee in which Tannehill sprained two ligaments in December, ending his 2016 season.

Your reading skills are shit. From your updated link:

While the initial diagnosis is encouraging, the Dolphins and Tannehill aren’t out of the woods yet, as concern has now been raised about the stability of the quarterback’s knee. He opted to not have surgery on it this offseason despite suffering partial tears to the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments last December in a win over the Cardinals.

It remains to be seen if Tannehill could have knee swelling that might sideline him for some time, and a specialist might recommend some type of surgery. An arthroscopic surgery could sideline him for at least a month.

I wouldn't go that far yet. He hasn't done anything except getting drafted high. Big deal, so did Ryan Leaf.

Once he proves himself we can get into doing what is best for Mahomes is what is best for the Chiefs. Once you get a franchise QB you generally do what you can to keep them but he isn't there yet from what I understand.

Until then he's a high draft pick trying to earn the backup QB job. I'm rooting for him as much as anyone. I'd like him to beat out Alex Smith right away but realistically Chiefs need to develop him like any other high draft pick but nothing more. If he is ready to beat out whoever he is competing with for the 1st-string QB job, play him, if he isn't, then don't. Not rocket science.

He's got to earn it and I'm sure he will with time.

If we don't trade Alex Smith it isn't going to because of what is best for Mahomes it'll be about what is best for the Chiefs this season. We can win with Alex and our coaches know that which is why he will NOT get traded.

Holy hell man. Are we even on the same message board right now?

I'm well aware that Mahomes hasn't done anything yet. But there is absolutely zero doubt that Mahomes is the most critical player to our future success currently on the roster. The investment they made in him, along with playing QB--makes this a certainty.

If they traded Alex Smith right now (and they won't), it means that they feel Mahomes is ready and able to lead this offense. I don't think he is, and I doubt Reid does either.

The kid can play when Reid says he is ready, and I'll be cool with it. But Reid must do whatever is best for Pat, and in turn for the franchise.

Wait till Pat plays a game first. Yes the potential is there but as of right now the best QB on the roster is Alex Smith and I don't think any one doubts that
