Andy Reid is a terrible head football coach

Andy Reid got depantsed in the Super Bowl by Bruce Arians.

Bruce ****ing Arians and Tom ****ing Brady.

Well, you see, Andy Reid is an offensive genius, and how dare we question Andy Reid's genius in not running the ball and not utilizing the screen pass in the face of an epically brutal pass rush, a patchwork offensive line and a QB with a hurt toe?

How dare we question his geniusness?

Only true homers would defend Andy in the Pats playoff game.

27-13 with 6:29 left to go on the clock. The clock is your enemy in that situation. They used 5:16 to run 16 plays with absolutely no sense of urgency. It was one of the slowest drives in history. Use up all the clock and put your hopes in an onside kick? Guess what? It didn't work. Poor time management because they couldn't call plays efficiently.

Is your argument that Reid right now sucks as a an NFL coach?

Doesn't happen with a real QB.

Yeah, you concern yourself about how to chew up time if you're worried about Brady AFTER you recover the onside kick...not make sure NOBODY has hardly any time left no matter who recovers. I was going to point that out to somebody but the ranting was such that it made my eyes roll back into my head.

Right, nobody is seriously saying Reid is 'terrible', but he's definitely overrated for reasons like the above.

Whatever he might be able to do to beat the bottom 2/3 of the league and whatever he did to bring the team back to respectability during his first two years, he's proven in big games and in crucials situations that he frequently makes it harder for the team to win.

Having an all-world QB might be enough to cover for him, finally. But it also leaves one wondering what might be achieved if we could pair one of the best QBs of his generation, if that's what Mahomes is, with an equivalent coach.

(Well - not really. The Patriots have already shown us what that combination yields, but Reid is no Belichick)

Yeah, yeah, a lot of fans love Reid because they judge the team primarily by their regular season record and that's right in his wheelhouse.

How often does that happen? Once or twice a generation? Seriously.

You're down 14 - the scoreboard is your biggest enemy. The clock ain't your friend, but down 2 scores was the biggest issue there, especially when your top 2 weapons are injured or bracketed.

Yes, the clock is a problem - but it was STILL going to require an onside kick that we didn't recover. Or at worst a stop that we didn't get. Reid's clock management made absolutely no difference in that game and the route he chose at least gave them 2 shots - the recovery or the stop. Going bombs away and 3 and out gives them 0 chances.

We scored 13 points in the first 3.5 quarters and you're acting like he should've just started calling his 'score easily' plays despite his lack of weapons and the fact that he's going against a defense that is now specifically tailored to prevent quick scores.

But I'm sure had they hucked it downfield 3 times to DAT and lost by 14 without ever having as much as the faint onside kick hope, you'd have lauded him for his exceptional clock management.

No, the problem was Alex Smith was walking back to the line burning the entire playclock on every single play. It made absolutely no sense. That's first on Alex. But the coach should be lighting a fire to move the plays along faster. That was controllable and completely botched.

You're forgetting the context from the original point; that Reid would never call that play Pederson called in the SuperBowl...hang in there buddy...you might catch up eventually.

Andy Reid's inability to manage a clock late in the game (or half really) has followed him through 2 teams and several OC's and QB's.

All you can really hope for is that Mahomes changes that. Great QB's can cover up this wart. I'm way past blaming anyone else for his awful time mismanagement.

If Andy Reid came out and admitted he blew the clock situation in the NE game, DJ would argue with him.
