Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

We just committed to AT LEAST 2 years of Alex Smith as the starter.

With the Eagles, Reid made some draft picks that infuriated me and other fans, but most of his trades were pretty good. We landed a 2nd round pick for AJ Feeley. We landed a 2nd round pick and DRC for Kolb. We traded a low first round pick for Jason Peters who is arguably the best OT in football. Terrell Owens was acquired for a 5th round pick and Brandon Whiting(who? I know).

On paper this trade looks like a total overpayment, so it was surprising. Usually Reid is very stingy with draft picks.

Two second round picks. Not just one, two. (the 2nd one is a conditional in 2014. 2nd rounder unless we do really poorly in 2013, then itll be our high 3rd-rounder)

He had no QB. Maybe desperation at that position drives him batty.

Im lready infuriated but this is what makes me nervous.

Do they already have a plan in place to replace the second? Are they looking to trade somebody? Do they have a trade down partner?

Im just expecting the worst

Is Alex elite? No, but he just could take you guys to the playoffs with the weapons you have. Will he? I've watched Alex his whole career I don't know, but he is the best option you guys have right now. According to Bowe he's happy about the move. Andy Reid sacrificed a lot to get Alex. There has to be something there right?

Draft a young guy to sit behind him. Let him learn the ropes. If Alex doesn't work out losing a 2nd round pick is not going to be the death of this team.
He's not an upgrade, he's a shitty backup just like Cassel. Both of them had a good year in the pros and that's it. Reid is so smart that he just gave up what is essentially a late first round draft pick for a guy that the niners were going to cut.

Yes, because of Smiths 3rd down conversions that game I bet?

I did not think you were a troll at first. I know you are now.

I gave the benefit of the doubt since your team was the Jaguars. Hey they draft QB's at least.
