*****The Patrick Mahomes Thread*****

IT ****ING HAPPENED

OP UPDATE:

Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

That's on Smith. The skins will learn quick they should have kept Kirk.

Turnovers do matter, especially over time. They are a big indicator during the regular season when you are looking at a large body of work.

During the playoffs, especially against good teams, expecting other teams mistakes to be a reason you win doesn't always work. You've gotta go take the win. Houston made mistakes and that was our win.

Just saying you need to get something from turnovers. If you get the ball and go 3 and out, what good is that? Not much and we did that many times with Smith. 60 plus and we were damn near the bottom of the league in scoring. Champs make you pay for turnovers and we did not. That's why the Pats can be plus 2 and get to the SB. They make teams pay for screwing up.

There’s also something to be said for explosives plays and having them (or at least the threat of them) every single week. No team in the NFL can safely match up against KC right now with at least one safety very deep and many times they should probably use two depending on the quality of their corners.

But with Kelce needing extra attention from safeties, there should be ample opportunity to make big plays every game.

During the season we should also take note about the situational INT's. If Pat wants to throw it 80 yards on 3rd down and take a shot and it gets picked off.... so what, it's like a great punt.

It’s more about shipping our best turnover machine to LA. Peters was getting turnovers at a HOF pace. I don’t think we’ll see as many turnovers from our defense this year which makes it even more important for Pat to not turn go overboard turning the ball over.

"Dating back to the NFL-AFL merger, when teams come out ahead in the turnover margin, they win 78 percent of the time. When they’re ahead in the turnover differential by two, the winning percentage moves to 86 percent. Three or more, it’s 91 percent."

Pat can pretty much make the punter obsolete. He can throw it farther than the punter can kick it and we don't have to worry about a blocked punt. If he completes a 60 yard bomb we're sitting pretty and if it gets intercepted then it backs the other team up deeper than a punt would. If it falls incomplete then we punt.

Complaining about Mahomes possibly having more interceptions than Alex is like being given a brand new Ferrari and bitching that it gets worse gas mileage than your old Toyota.

It works well playing bad teams.. not so well in the playoffs. Ask Marty.

Colin Cowherd kills it.

KILLS IT.

He's talking on the subject of interceptions and QB's. He's speaking on Sam Darnold, but it applies to Patrick Mahomes as well. Worth a listen.
