I've always wanted to fish those northern-type waters for muskie and pike, legit freshwater "monsters"... I've also always wondered, do people eat those two fish? And walleye, I've ate a lot of what the jokers that run restaurants and taverns around here CALL walleye... but its not, its always cod or something similar. I'd love to try the real thing. |

Love me some maters,
we use banana pepper juice or some other hot pickled juice and peppers and spices, butter, a little beer, looks like my fishing buddy went heavy on the butter though. You just cant beat fresh Walleye, add a rib eye soaked in dales marinate..... cook med rare and tater and onions and a can of beans, fresh maters and avocado.......mmmmmm |

Spicy vinegar diluted down with some beer and butter... yeah I bet that makes a damn fine sauce, especially when you throw in some wood smoke flavor from the fire.

It's nice to see someone do something besides the generic cornmeal fried version of fish.

I have been naturally cringing at the far side shore of the lake and all it's shady goodness
Just out of reach. The bunkers are within a meter or so. So I can't fish the best part of the lake unless I want to pay green fees. That's what I thought. Until a wily old vet cruised past me today, hooked a turn under the cart bridge and played the **** through. BvNrav I'm about to ramp up the hunt. |

Nothing makes access to all of the best nooks and crannies easier than a boat, let us know what you end up with, BT.

So, has anyone posted evidence of landing a 10+lb large mouth?
That's the what drives me out there time after time. A fish with enough torque to pop the strongest lines. I've lost that fish 3 times out here this year. Many hook em. Fewer than you might think ever get one on dry land. Having the drag strong enough to set the hook, and forgiving enough to not pop the line, is just the first hurdle. I jerk the shit out of it twice. If the hook is not locked when he comes out for the freedom shake he's loose. But, if it is, and the drag is locked when he dives, he swims away with some sweet facial jewelry. I had one jump on me a few weeks back that could have swallowed a toddler. It's actually torturous that they are in there and that I don't have one. It's kinda like a Chiefs SB, too. I mean, it should happen before I die, but that doesn't mean it will. |
