He's thin and needs to add some strength and explosion, but I see exciting raw ability to work with there.

If he already had the size and strength to play a college DE/OLB hybrid, he'd be rated much higher already (and likely headed to UGA).
And I gave him credit for that. The Will in this system needs to be able to feel congestion and work through it to make plays. And because he's a longer, more athletic sort he shouldn't get lost in space either. Without that particular skill, I'd say he's just another relatively forgettable likely special teamer long-term. With it, I think there's at least a chance he could develop into a starting caliber player at a key position by his Jr/Sr years.

His strengths make him capable of playing the Will, but he'll need to develop a fair amount to be a true asset there. That makes him similar to most of the guys we tend to be in on.

Like I said, it's better to get guys than not. I wouldn't say he's a waste of a scholarship or anything, I just don't see him being appreciably more likely to make an impact than a dozen or so guys we get every year.

No real surprises so far on signing day. Still don't have the LOI from Mills but looks like Gray is likely to decommit and go to Michigan. Hansford isn't signing early so it looks like he's still hoping to get some bigger offers (GA?)

Bailey, Parker and Ballard are all signed, those were the 3 I was most interested in keeping. The story is that Mills intends to sign on Friday so his parents can be there so not many worries there either (NE evidently not being considered at this point).

I assume Daniel Parker Jr is one of the **** in-state guys you mention in the note at the bottom of your second OP spoiler. Do you know if the other 6 are all committed elsewhere or otherwise off the Mizzou radar?

Most are off the radar. Still have a chance with a few, notably Mario Goodrich.

Yes. Don't know why he didn't come to mind. Sounds very positive on him.

If Mizzou signed Goodrich and Thompson, it would give them four **** players, which is a decent, but not great recruiting class for them, and could be argued as either disappointing given the in-state talent that was available this year, or a good sign that we got any given the results in '15, '16, and the first half of the year.

If you're looking for a best-case scenario, Pinkel's class in 2010 had seven four-star players and ten other high three-stars (5.7 RRs).

Those seventeen players were:

Four-Stars:

Nick Demien
James Franklin
Jimmie Hunt
Tristen Holt
Kony Ealy
Tyler Gabbert
Marcus Lucas

High Three-Stars:

Lucas Vincent
Henry Josey
Mitch Morse
EJ Gaines
Xavier Smith
Anthony Gatti
Kenronte Walker
Marcus Murphy
Bud Sasser
Matt Hoch

Twelve of those guys were factors or significant factors for the 2013 team, the best one Pinkel ever had, IMO.

The point is, recruiting matters, even on staffs that try to find diamonds in the rough.

Hate losing players to Ohio State & Michigan. Georgia had quite a haul today

Today might be the first official day of Alabama's decline. Maybe playing for a juggernaut of that level is becoming passé, maybe there was an unusual amount of talent in Georgia this year, maybe Kirby Smart is a much better recruiter/closer than I thought, or maybe it's all three.

Georgia getting that kind of talent makes the East all-but-unwinnable for Mizzou for the foreseeable future.

This is life in the SEC. no fewer than seven schools in the league (Bama, auburn, Florida, Georgia, ATM, Tenner, lsu) are
Always going to dwarf Mizzou's dedication to college football.

It's why I was not a fan of the SEC move when rumored originally.

I felt pretty much the same at the time and occasionally still do when I see Georgia's recruiting class and the fact that Tennessee can continue recruiting at a high level even after going winless in conference.
