Mike Tomlin gets 3-yr extension from Steelers.

Just breaking now.

Is it me or do the Steelers feel like they are morphing to the Bears from the last 30 years?

If you don't have a guy like Mahomes to constantly challenge the vets and show the young guys how it's done, it's really hard to not wear out your welcome as a head coach.

It just happens. Too many moving parts from year to year. Even the best coaches can hit a bad luck in the personnel department. You grow older. The league changes around you and your way isn't as novel to the team as it once was. You just end up needing a change of environment.

I mean, sure, it's nice as a franchise if you don't have to hire new coaches every 3 seasons, but you also don't want to just stick with Marvin Lewis for 15 years. That's not good either.

Mike Tomlin in a league that asks the question, "What have you done for me lately?" is turning into Marvin Lewis.

I swear I thought about Marvin Lewis as well.

Another thing, how many seasons without a playoff win did it take for the Pats to move on from Belichick? I mean if past success buys you time, Tomlin certainly shouldn't have that much more than Belichick.

Not every situation is the same. We don’t have the full scope of all the behind-the-scenes bureaucracy and politics.

Rumors out of New England are that Kraft wanted to keep Brady while Belichick wanted to move on. I’m inclined to believe that after they watched Brady win another ring in Tampa and that weird ass documentary Kraft put out. That could easily have caused a rift that led to a somewhat premature firing.

It's not Robert Kraft that caused the issue, it's Jonathan the son. He and Bill hate each other.

Huh, I hadn’t heard about that.. some juicy articles out there making a lot of claims.

Still strengthens my point, IMO. There are tons of things us fans don’t see inside the building that affect coaching and personnel decisions.

The past couldn't be more irrelevant.

"It's ok to be stuck in mediocrity if you won a lot of SBs 15+ years ago."

What a ridiculous take.

And why Kraft fired Belichick is also irrelevant.

Regardless, most people agree that it was time to move on either way based on the performance on the field, and they've won a SB more recently than the ****ing Steelers.

But then again, you're the same dipshit that was defending Belichick less than a year ago. You claimed he could replace Veach at GM seamlessly, and you even tried to argue that his drafts haven't been ****ing terrible.

So again, you're just clueless.

In a world with elite QBs claiming most Superbowls, you can't base a coaches record off how recent they won a SB. This is the only stat that justifies and should justify why Tomlin is a coach and BB is not.

Last two years(neither team had consistency at QB)
BB - 12-22
MT - 19-15

All I'm seeing are 2 coaches that should both be fired

Also, last 2 years seems pretty arbitrary when we're talking about coaches that have been there for 10+ years.

The fact that the Steelers haven't even won a playoff game in almost a decade while Belichick has won two SBs since is absolutely relevant.

The Steelers have only had 3 coaches since 1970!!! Legendary!!!

More stupid shit. The Steelers are a great franchise because they have 6 ****ing Super Bowls, not because they hold onto their stupid coaches until they croak.

He's a good HC and the Steelers are an excellent organization. I think he will get them back as contenders soon.

The tough pill to swallow for the Steelers is you can’t win the way the Lions as 49ers do in the AFC. There’s too many good QB’s here.

They could probably win a playoff game or 2 in the NFC but not the AFC
