Dave Steckel, and by extension, Gary Pinkel, never figured out how to defend any option offense, even with multiple weeks to prepare. That bowl game was absolutely shameful. Same thing that happened against Auburn.

A big part of that issue was also in how the DL technique was coached. Kuligiowski's style was aggressive and led to a lot of big plays and TFL, but it also was undisciplined and left the team vulnerable to misdirection, especially in run-option schemes.

That's one of the reasons Odom and Kuligiowski disagreed so much. Odom is a believer in a more versatile approach on the DL that gives the linemen some responsibility.

If you watched much of the Clemson/Miami blowout Saturday, you might have noticed the Miami D had many of the same struggles Mizzou traditionally had against Pinkel in the run/run-option game.

Missouri is a -1.5 to -2 point favorite. 59.5 O/U. Texas has some guys skipping the bowl game so that line might move more if they lose anyone else.

That is true. However, the players were also arguing for certain schemes to be altered during the Auburn game, and they were roundly ignored by the defensive coaching staff, in favor of "same old, same old."
