Tourist(s) missing in submarine while trying to reach the Titannic

https://www.ctvnews.ca/world/u-s-coa...-sub-1.6446841

Quote:
A search and rescue operation is currently underway to locate a submarine that went missing during an expedition to the Titanic.
The U.S. Coast Guard was looking for the submarine Monday morning after it disappeared during the expedition from St. John's, N.L. The infamous 1912 wreck is located more than 600 kilometres southeast of the province in the North Atlantic Ocean.
The trip to the Titanic was being run by OceanGate Expeditions, a U.S.-based company. It uses a five-person submersible named Titan to reach the wreckage 3,800 metres below the surface. OceanGate's website advertises a seven-night voyage to the Titanic for US$250,000 per person, or approximately CA$330,000.
"We are exploring and mobilizing all options to bring the crew back safely," an OceanGate spokesperson said in an email to CTV News. "Our entire focus is on the crewmembers in the submersible and their families."

Those tours are a series of five eight-day missions to the Titanic with the money raised by tourists going towards Titanic research. Posts on social media show the ship launched from the St. John's area last week.

Did they really have 5 people in this?? Or do they have a larger version??

That's exactly how I envision the failure occurring. I think a leak started at that flange joint and you have all that pressure coming in that totally blew the end cap off the rest of the vessel. The rest of the carbon fiber hull probably immediately shattered into a thousand tiny pieces leaving both titanium end caps floating to the bottom.

I would actually have less truck with it if it were actually a playstation controller. The military is currently using game console controllers to fly UAVs and such.

This dude went with a set above budget Logitech controller.

Anyone wanna take bets on how long it takes for this to become a film starring Mark Whalberg?

If they would have been rescued alive, filming would be starting in the next couple of weeks. Since they went splat, we'll just have to suffer at least three documentaries on the tragedy.

If they had survived and made a movie Tom Hanks would put out hits on any actor that challenges him for lead Hero.

This was a good read.

The sphere at the bottom was the only pressurized part of the ship.

35,797 ft deep? Holy shitballs.

After passing 9,000 metres (30,000 ft), one of the outer Plexiglas window panes cracked, shaking the entire vessel.
I bet when that happened you couldn't pull a pin out of their ass with a tractor.

I wouldn't trust that thing in a bathtub let alone 13000 ft below the surface. Glue, really?
