Question for people:

Based on what we've seen/heard so far, do you still think we need to spend $6-8 million (possibly for multiple years) on Bashaud Breeland?

We're three deep with dudes who have starting experience-- Fuller, Amerson, Nelson. The others have flashed some during practice, but they're young and we have no idea what will happen in preseason games and beyond.

If you ask me, I'm leaning towards not signing him at all. Not for the money he wants, anyway. The extra space this year could mean carry-over that will help significantly in getting contract extensions for practically anybody who's due soon. That includes Nelson and Amerson and also Fuller (who would still have a year left after this season). We may also want to get early deals done for Jones or Hill.

I agree with this. It's possible it could bite you in the ass, but you have to draft and develop and it's tough to develop talent if they never see the field. Three deep in experienced CB's for a team just starting it's 'window' seems pretty good to me. It's possible that like...Amerson will flame out and none of the draftees are worth a shit, but I think you have to take those chances to develop talent.

Just depends. It could go off the rails if Amerson is last years Amerson, etc etc.

I'd probably go ahead and still sign him if possible.

Plus, just consider that we went through last season where our CB2 was a rotation of toasted Philip Gaines, flag-o-rama Terrence Mitchell, no-talent Kenneth Acker, and grandpa Darrelle Revis.

The young guys might have flaws. Hell, the starters might have flaws. But I doubt it can get any worse than what we had last year.

That's pretty much my fear.

We had what, 1 year there where we had Smith and Peters together and actually a pair of competent corners?

With what we have now, if there is an injury or Amerson struggles, it could be a long year.

I have high hopes for Tremon Smith, but I'd rather he earn the spot than be forced to play when he's not ready.

I know others are loving our D right now, but i haven't been particularly impressed. The DB's are rarely winning. Pat's Ints have mostly been faults of his own, or dropped passes, not really plays being made by the D. IDK, i see coverage breakdowns and guys that are struggling to cover deep.

(Here comes the Homer train to pounce on 'ol Detoxing)

As far as Breeland goes, i'm indifferent. 7-8mill is a lot of coin for an average corner.

I've seen a lot of that in 1 on 1 situations. I don't care about 1 on 1 situations.

I'm waiting for preseason games anyway.

I'm not even talking about the 1v1's, though it would be nice to see the DB's win more even in that drill.

I'm not down on them. But im not impressed either. I just don't think i've seen enough to say, "yeah we're good there".

We shall see.

It's just pretty much impossible for a DB to win one of those, especially against someone like Hill or Watkins or Kelce. I mean ****, when a wr gets to make like 3 moves and then beats a corner, damn.
