The Mariners made the first move of the trade season. Traded Span and their closer Colome for two Mariners minor leaguers.

I'm not sure why the Rays felt they needed to do this trade right now. Apparently they sent cash too. Span is an older vet but Colome was a very good reliever the last couple years. Led the league in saves last year. Was down a bit this year but they still had control over him a couple more years.
Basically traded them for what looks like a couple marginal prospects that aren't on any lists for the Mariners. I get why the Mariners want to be aggressive and add guys with their current record and Cano being out... but the Rays had two months to the trade deadline. |

It looks like a salary dump. They paired Colome with Span to unload the salary. Shitty move. |

Bet the Cardinals feel dumb now. Colome is who they were trying to get in the offseason.

Profar just made one of the worst throws I've ever seen an MLB shortstop make. That ball had to be at least 10 feet wide of first base.

Good to see Blaine making sure this team goes back in the right direction.
What's the worst season ever for a reliever? I'd think Ned's boi Blaine has a chance to close in if Ned keeps him on the squad for the season. Hilarious the dude is now 2-0 with an 11.84 ERA. |

Um, it is only 11.44.....
Each time he records an out without giving up a run it goes down approximately 0.5 runs. |

That'd be hard to say because you could probably find a bunch of old time relievers with some bad stats.
In 1998, Bobby Ayala went 1-10 with a 7.29 ERA in 75 IP for the Mariners. He also had 8 saves. |

Meanwhile, Andrew Miller is looking awfully shaky with Cleveland.
2015 was something truly special, ya'll. |

It’s amazing the Royals bullpen had the dominant 3 year run they did. Bullpens are just not that consistent and reliable year to year. To have 3 guys maintain elite performance for a 3 year stretch is almost unfathomable.

If the Twins could get their act together they'd have a legit shot to take this division. Their offense is pretty terrible though. Logan Morrison is hitting 200. Their shortstop makes Escobar look like Jeter, and Buxton is literally approaching a .400 OPS. |
