Four major art projects for new KCI terminal revealed
The first of four major art projects for the new single terminal airport at KCI have been revealed.
More than 1,000 artists from around the world submitted inquiries after Kansas City announced an international search for artists. The city said the four works of art were chosen because they either reflected the wonder of travel or Kansas City history. The budget for artwork at KCI’s new terminal is $5.65 million. Kansas City’s single-terminal airport is expected to open on budget and on time in early 2023. “The fact that we’ve been through a pandemic over the last year and yet this project remains on time, on schedule, and on budget is a testament to the good work of the team,” said Justin Meyer with the KC Aviation Department. You can see the renderings of the art projects in the gallery below. Entitled "Molten Swing" Entitled "The Air up There" Entitled "Ornithology" Entitled "Fountain of Resonance" "Molten Swing" looks kind of like a mosaic dog or cat to me, it might look cool though but not sure what to make of it at this point. "The Air up There" simply looks like some lights on the ceiling, again it might look better when you're actually there I hope. "Ornithology" reminds me of those attacking creatures in the Pitch Black movie. You just knew one of the artwork they chose would have a WTF moment and this is it. "Fountain of Resonance" I approve of this one. Thoughts? https://fox4kc.com/news/art-projects...inal-revealed/ |

I started to watch that video, then realized it was 11 minutes long about a ****ing airport and just stopped.
I'm sure it will be an airport. And you will be able to buy sandwiches and magazines and ear buds and coffee every 40 feet. And that will keep all the out of town crybabies very, very happy. |

In for not having to stand on a narrow median, uncovered in the snow waiting for a rental shuttle.

(I also watch videos at 1.5-2x speed depending on how fast they talk) My out of towner crybaby story was when I flew into KC and didn't have Uber or Lyft downloaded on my phone, so while it was taking forever to download, I called the main number for a taxi and they said I had to call from an inside phone. I told them I was like 10fl feet from an inside phone and they said they needed me to call from an inside phone so they knew where I was calling from, so I looked up and told them which door I was at and they insisted I called from an inside phone... so my download was about finished so I told him nevermind I'll get a Lyft. So, thanks for spending those millions in tax dollars or whatever so I can get a Lyft. |

Beautiful but honestly I will miss the ease of the 3 terminals, so easy to get in and out of the airport. 50 steps to the exit. Sad

Vegas still drops you off on one level and has a cab stand on the same level. I think you have to go to level 2 of the parking garage for ride shares like uber and lift though. |

Don't go downstairs at Denver International Airport. It gets pretty freaky.

The new airport terminal is great. So many small things were thought of. It still easy to get in and out. Everyone should enjoy it.
It came in early and on budget. A big advancement for Kansas City. |

I seriously contemplated getting a cheap one way ticket just so I could hang out at the new airport all day. Decided to book a work trip in mid-March instead - can't wait!!
