Let's say Bobby's August is as hot as his July. So I plugged those numbers in, give or take. Putting him at 200 total hits and 532 AB's through the end of August would give him a .375 BA.

What did I conclude? Hitting .400 for a season is really, really, really ****ing hard. If you can hit over .300 for three months, have two months of hitting close to .500 and still be 25 points shy? No wonder Brett cracked under the pressure.
I will tell you how hard hitting .400 is: Tony Gwynn & George Brett never hit .400

Gwynn hit .394 but only played in 110 games that year, and Brett hit .390 but only played in 117 games that year.

Gwynn and Brett are the two best hitters of my lifetime. However, Brett, to me, was by far the better player between the two, and combined average with more prolific production, but Gwynn has a higher career batting average, .338 vs .311, and almost 500 fewer strikeouts.

The only superstar I ever got to watch was Greinke, but really he only had one year of legitimate dominance with KC. Wasn't alive for Brett, so this is my first actual experience with a bonafide super star Royals player.

George Brett and I were the same age, I drove up many times from Southern Kansas to watch him and the Royals through the years, great baseball during his career. Witt is rounding out to be in Bretts class!

Bobby Witt Jr is on pace for one hell of a ****ing season. I'm not sure how many times this has been done.

10.5 bWAR - Tied for the 28th highest season ever
11.1 fWAR - Tied for the 19th highest seasons ever
225 hits
44 doubles
15 triples
32 HRs
33 stolen bases
137 runs scored
119 RBIs

If not for Aaron Judge he'd probably run away with this award. Judge has a higher WAR, but he has a negative defensive rating. I believe Witt would run away with the award in the NL.
