Not sure if this was mentioned, but Mizzou in talks of extending Odom's contract.

And if I was MIZZOU, I'd let him know the recent past has been impressive, then resist any temptation to go for a long term deal. Let them know they have to win a lot to keep their job. It's a win-win, if they win they can ask for more cash in the next contract period which won't ever be a long way away, but if they lose, they get sent packing. |

Extension is not a wise idea, but I guess they want to gain some ground on the recruiting trail.
Not a big deal if his buyout remains comically low. |

What has he done to even think about offering him an extension?

Extending Odom is way premature. Most Tiger fans would likely agree with this.

Many of those contracts also contain amounts that can be spent on assistants. With rumors that Heupel might be interested in moving onto a head coaching gig at a small school (I believe South Alabama is the rumor du jour), maybe they're trying to funnel more money into assistants as well as part of Odom's extension so he can hold onto Heupel.
I'd probably wait one more year but it isn't uncommon for power 5 head coaches to get another year tacked on earlier in their deal so that they're always sitting with a 'full class' left on their deal. It can't hurt in recruiting, especially in the cuthroat SEC where everyone negatively recruits the hell out of everyone else. |

Heard Mike Gundy is interviewing for the Tennessee job. If offered, he's gonna mullet over.

If you're afraid of losing Heupel, you give him a raise and you extend the HC that gave him the gig. That's the best way to keep him over losing him to a DII school with a HC gig. |
