I am not quite sure yet if this will be good news or not. My port area started feeling sore Saturday evening and last night, I was looking at it and it seemed a bit swollen and pink around about half the port area, but it was not hot compared to the other side of my chest. It's on my left pec area below my clavicle, by the way. My temp was 100.4 and I have instructions to call the cancer center if I ever go above 100.5 so I took it again minutes later and was down to 100.1 and with that, I drank a glass of water and took one last antibiotic for the day and went to bed. This morning, my temp was 99.6 at 5:30 am and I took another antibiotic and went back to bed.
At 10:30 am, my temp was 98.3 and I think the skin over my port is looking less pink than it was. It's still sore, though. I called the center and got voicemail, so I did leave a detailed message about what is going on. I do NOT want another infection like I had in November of 2014, since that almost killed me and they had to remove the old port. I went through hell with recovery, as a nurse came to the house every two days (except initially, it was 4 days) to pack my wound with hydrafera blue and both pulling the stuff out of there and cramming fresh stuff in was hardly any fun at all... and it went on into late January before my wound was too small to tamp that stuff down in there like I was a musket. |

Thank you, that means a lot to me! I am starving now, so I guess I had better not put my breakfast off any longer since it's about lunchtime! On this cold day, a nice hot pot of tea and a fire going in the fireplace, my Scottish blanket on the sofa, and some DVDs seem to be the right choice. I wonder how long it will be before I hear from a doc or a nurse. Hours, if I had to bet. Hmmph.

I heard back from a nurse about noon-thirty and had to go in to the center at 3 pm to get checked out by the nurse practitioner. She put me on a new, strong antibiotic, so hopefully that will do the trick and keep me out of the hospital. I was feeling more energy and strength in my body today, anyway, so that with the new med I am hoping will keep any infection from settling on the port and screwing up the next 2 and a half months like it did the last time.
I am very happy to be making chili for dinner in my own home instead of ordering hospital food to my room at the KU Medical Center. The next time I go there, I hope it is to remove my port because I am done with chemo and cancer. |

What good Chiefs fan isn't rooting for Cinci tonight? Yep, fire going, pot of chili, and a humiliating loss by the Donks will round my day out nicely!

I just got an email before the year ended from MyChart about a new test result. I checked and it showed that my CEA was checked on Dec. 14, 2015 and I got a 2.4 and 3.0 or less means no colon cancer, so the stuff that my tumor spewed about my bloodstream has been vanquished! What a way to start the new year with some fantastic news!!
