Good news [Lonewolf Ed]

I thought I'd start a new thread for updates on my cancer treatments and whatever else is going on, since the bad news thread title is misleading now.

My last treatment went better than the previous two and my chest wound is still closed up, which is a good thing. My arm is getting slightly stronger and I hope to resume lifting dumbbells next week. I need to build up my strength again, because I am going back to Denmark in May and I am extremely pumped about that! I'd like to be able to schlepp my own checked bag and not have someone else lifting it for me.

It's going to be a fabulous trip, 6 weeks and a couple of days for me. My brother is going along as well as my friends Chipp and Rod. Chipp is staying close to 3 weeks and has not gone with me over there since 2006 so he is also very pumped to be going. It will be Rod's first trip and he will be there for 2 weeks. I will get to be a tour guide. Also, I am throwing a party in my favorite pub of all, the wonderful, ever-magnificent Irish House in Aalborg on May 7th. The owner and I are friends and he will give me a little discount. We'll have Irish stew and brews in the cellar and I hope to have around 25 family and friends there. I might bill it as the "Fu** Cancer Party." A few months back, I was not sure I'd ever be able to go over to Denmark again or if I'd even be alive, but the cancer hasn't gotten me yet. I'm doing a number on it, instead.

Some other cool things I plan to do when I am back in my ancestral lands include a wine tasting in a castle, touring another castle and the northernmost manor home in the country, and visiting Skagen, the top of Denmark, where you can stand on a little patch of beach and have one foot in one sea and one in another. They also have a brewpub up there I am wanting to check out. I will start and end my trip in Aalborg and spend 5 weeks in an apartment I rent that is very close to the beach. I can hardly wait for May 4th to roll around!

I may not snow on Christmas, but there is plenty on the ground and the extended outlook would indicate it's not going anywhere in the foreseeable future.

I am not quite sure yet if this will be good news or not. My port area started feeling sore Saturday evening and last night, I was looking at it and it seemed a bit swollen and pink around about half the port area, but it was not hot compared to the other side of my chest. It's on my left pec area below my clavicle, by the way. My temp was 100.4 and I have instructions to call the cancer center if I ever go above 100.5 so I took it again minutes later and was down to 100.1 and with that, I drank a glass of water and took one last antibiotic for the day and went to bed. This morning, my temp was 99.6 at 5:30 am and I took another antibiotic and went back to bed.

At 10:30 am, my temp was 98.3 and I think the skin over my port is looking less pink than it was. It's still sore, though. I called the center and got voicemail, so I did leave a detailed message about what is going on. I do NOT want another infection like I had in November of 2014, since that almost killed me and they had to remove the old port. I went through hell with recovery, as a nurse came to the house every two days (except initially, it was 4 days) to pack my wound with hydrafera blue and both pulling the stuff out of there and cramming fresh stuff in was hardly any fun at all... and it went on into late January before my wound was too small to tamp that stuff down in there like I was a musket.

Thank you, that means a lot to me! I am starving now, so I guess I had better not put my breakfast off any longer since it's about lunchtime! On this cold day, a nice hot pot of tea and a fire going in the fireplace, my Scottish blanket on the sofa, and some DVDs seem to be the right choice. I wonder how long it will be before I hear from a doc or a nurse. Hours, if I had to bet. Hmmph.

I heard back from a nurse about noon-thirty and had to go in to the center at 3 pm to get checked out by the nurse practitioner. She put me on a new, strong antibiotic, so hopefully that will do the trick and keep me out of the hospital. I was feeling more energy and strength in my body today, anyway, so that with the new med I am hoping will keep any infection from settling on the port and screwing up the next 2 and a half months like it did the last time.

I am very happy to be making chili for dinner in my own home instead of ordering hospital food to my room at the KU Medical Center. The next time I go there, I hope it is to remove my port because I am done with chemo and cancer.

Chili sounds great, especially considering this miserable winter weather. Then, after dinner, settle down to watch the Donkeys get schlonged!!!

What good Chiefs fan isn't rooting for Cinci tonight? Yep, fire going, pot of chili, and a humiliating loss by the Donks will round my day out nicely!

I just got an email before the year ended from MyChart about a new test result. I checked and it showed that my CEA was checked on Dec. 14, 2015 and I got a 2.4 and 3.0 or less means no colon cancer, so the stuff that my tumor spewed about my bloodstream has been vanquished! What a way to start the new year with some fantastic news!!
