Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

Ask any coach on the 49ers, even ask Kaep how much he helped the developement. Even if Alex doesn't work out, he can at least be the stop gap needed while Geno learns the game. If I'm not mistaken you can cut Alex next year at no charge with his current contract.

I know losing a 2nd hurts that, but at the same time you would have your QB position set for years. Regardless of how Alex plays.
It's not gonna happen, period. Basically that means you just invested 3 early draft selections within a short time for one position.

Nope, I may be here for a while. I for one have gotten to watch Alex and am a fan of his. I'm excited to see what the guy can do with new surroundings. I think the Chiefs are the ideal situation for him, and I honestly feel he is going to play really well for you guys. I really hope he can turn this around for you and I really think he will. Just as Dorsey and Reid think as well.

I think people are butt hurt they aren't getting Geno and that makes sense. But if the trade does happen, I think many will be surprised when they actually get to watch the guy play. He's going to make you a much better team. I don't see why you guys aren't okay with that.

Stat-wise, what is the regular season profile of a guy that can win playoff games? More than 4000 passing yards and a QB rating of 90+? Seems like nice round numbers to me. If Smith doesn't immediately put up those numbers, what's the point of the trade? I don't see Reid being able to get those numbers from Smith, but if he does, I'll change my opinion of the trade: If your QB gives you those numbers, doesn't really matter whether you give up a 2nd or a 4th.

Alex Smith seems Jake Plummer to me: An efficient passer when ahead in a game, but a disaster when behind.

I would say that there is a 5-10% chance that the Chiefs would still draft Geno.....and this is the ONLY way that I think it goes down.

1. Geno tears up his pro day and by the time the draft rolls around......he's widely viewed as the #1 overall player.
2. The Chiefs don't extend Alex Smith....instead wanting him to prove he can win under his current contract (2 years left)
3. They aren't wowed by any offers from teams wanting to trade up.
4. They think that they can win now with the current roster, plus any FAs signed (including Albert and Bowe).

All of that would have to happen for them to draft Geno at #1.

Good. I hope he becomes elite and blows the doors off the Chiefs every time he comes to KC, so that ownership never forgets what a ****ing moronic play it is to go with the benched retread as your QB.

He had a record 6 comeback wins last year. That's not including his 2 td under 2 minute game against New Orleans.

Alex Smith is one of the clutchest QB's in the league. That is one of the only things that drove me nuts is that he would play okay all game, but at the end he would go lights out. He feeds off the pressure.

I don't believe Alex Smith coming to KC has anything to do with Dorsey. This is all Reid.
