Why did the clock stop after the Williams catch?

Was there any explanation for this?

Catches the ball, touched by 27, lands in bounds. Clearly down before getting OOB

You're not interpreting the rule correctly. If a guy shoves you to the ground, you're down. You don't have to be touched while you are physically on the ground.

Exactly the case. Regardless, he was also touched when down in bounds.

I made notes of it in GDT
One of those was on a Riversception, though, so...

Ward still needs to learn to just touch Williams there and make it easier for the refs. I feel like we're bad at drilling that into our defense.

Ward didn't need to touch him, Thornhill had already very clearly helped him to the ground at the end of the play.

And the refs missed it. If Ward touches him the refs can't miss it. There's no reason not to just run by and touch the guy when he's down. We should be in that habit just in case.

We've already had several times this year when a receiver was barely touched and 2 other guys just standing around doing nothing who couldn't possibly have seen the touch. They seem to still be stuck in college mode in big moments - which to me is a result of it not being drilled into them enough.

I can understand why the on-field refs missed the call because it was a bang-bang play. But New York reviews ALL plays under 2:00. After a quick review, why didn't they signal down to the refs about the clock error? I noticed it during the first replay, but they can and should have seen it much quicker...because it's their job. They could have rolled off at least :10-15 seconds because of the time it takes a team to travel 50 yards down field and set up to take another snap. That made a HUGE difference to the end of the game since there was less than :45 secs left.

THANK YOU!

I knew it was clear, but did not know how to find or put up the video. (Old Luddite here.)

Ward could not get to him without diving & risking unnecessary roughness penalty. By the time he arrives, Williams has popped up & has a foot out of bounds.

But how could NY figure out how far to run the clock? Agreed, the refs fubar'd the call but would it be a 10 second run-off or what? When the officials on the field didn't roll the clock there's no way to determine how much time was gone unless the clock had kept running and they stopped to fix on review which didn't happen.
