****Our Wide Receivers Suck- Official Thread****

They can’t get open, they drop passes in their hands, their jet sweeps are slow and terrible. These guys are not good.

No, but you're having a difficult time in this thread - one might say even impossible - acknowledging that this WR group is very, very similar to the one that was adequate enough to be part of the best offense in the NFL last season and the most efficient in recent memory.

If this were the first game last year where the offense had no track record of success, I'd fully understand any hand-wringing. But if you're already very concerned, then 1/ you feel the WRs have clear room to regress despite the fact that players their age typically do the opposite; 2/ you feel JuJu was so important that the addition of Rice and James is immaterial; 3/ you feel the NFL will catch up to the Chiefs and Mahomes; or 4/ you're just responding with a lack of logic and being hyper-reactionary based on the sample size of 1 game without Kelce.

I'm penciling you down for 4. That's all.

A lot of people here dramatically overrated this group in the preseason and now there's some massive overcorrection. At this point in their careers, the WRs are fairly average and a product of the greatness of Mahomes (and Kelce to a lesser degree). But that doesn't mean they're not ascending as a whole, can't improve over the course of the season, and can't play a major role in winning another SB.

(And no, you clearly still don't understand what I was getting at with respect to JuJu and MVS.)

Yap yap yap.

Then clearly you are unable to articulate very well what you are getting at with respect to MVS and Juju. You were the one who brought Juju up. I wasn't even thinking of him.

thats not true at all, not even close. Look at the all-22. MVS, Ross and Watson were open all game deep. It’s on film. Not saying what that means or why it occurred. But, it’s fact.

Jarvis Landry Is 30 & a FA. Despite having seven wide receivers, this team could use an experienced veteran presence in the wide receiver group. Should the Chiefs bring him in for a look? I think he had an ankle injury last year. No idea if he has anything left in the tank. Maybe someone more familiar could elaborate on his potential contribution to the team. (He’s been in five pro bowls, if that means anything.)

I’d expect Veach to draft a WR in the first or second round most years. Have to keep those cheap WR salaries in the cap.

I've always kind of liked Landry. He's always been a solid WR. Not flashy at all, but smart and consistent.

He's just 30, so maybe he's still got some tread left.

yea maybe.

I get you can't be perfect at every position with the salary cap. If Toney didn't have some sort of issue he wouldn't have been available for a third round pick.

But it is frustrating that the team doesn't have a veteran JAG with solid hands in the chain mover category outside Kelce.

Given Andy's complicated passing offense, the WR turnover is...

A bit startling.

Yes, MVS and Skyy aren't rookies. But it isn't like either were a mainstay of the offense either. It's a mostly newish group.

Given how complicated

Patrick played well but he deserves some blame as well. He missed some throws and some reads. On 3rd and 20 and the end of the game he had a WIDE OPEN Noah Gray and chose to throw a no chance ball into double coverage to Rice. He missed Skyy Moore either by not getting him the ball or making a poor pass as well.

It's just like last year. This team was in a funk for a while in the early stages of the season. They figured it out in time and were good to go when it mattered.

You could also say the same for the young secondary except they brought back all the CB's. Now they're playing ball. Turning over the roster vs bringing everyone back in an aspect to the game that goes overlooked. By mid season it's been resolved.

We'll be just fine but there will be more growing pains. Need to get Ross reps as well.

Skyy and Pat need to go camping or something. Those two have no chemistry. You could tell in his press conference when speaking of Skyy he doesn't like what he's seeing but said he's talented. May need to just scrap Moore for Rice sooner than later.

This is ridiculous! KT should have NEVER been out there - he was not ready. We were never going to go undefeated - this game is a rematch of the Colts game last season - guess what? WE WON the SB! Give this game a rest already. Kelce will be back next game and the world will realign itself. I am not giving up on the team I love over a 1 point loss to an NFC team. Dear God!

Realistic that Rice is unlikely to know the offense to the degree that Andy demands, but we can’t have a receiver on the field for 80% of the passing plays only get target 3 times and whiff when the ball comes his way. Almost at the point of giving up on him (which admittedly would be stupid at this point), but not holding my breath either. Hopefully, someone steps up to such a degree that it’s impossible for Andy not to notice (like Pacheco last season).
Agreed. I mean, we’ve pieced together a WR rotation for years with cheap parts. We can continue to build the WR corps that way. Worst case scenario, that’s the best we can do. We don’t have to change what we do except that we more deliberately target x/y WRs with high draft assets.

Probably repeatedly because we have to be ready to churn these WRs as they come up for contract.

You're just wrong there.
They just showed this on the NFLN Pregame Show.

We had guys wide open down the field and 15 either missed them or was facing pressure.

I'm confused I thought the O-Line did well, I didn't see Patrick under a lot of pressure. That's not encouraging to read TBH.

I think having Kelce back will help the wheels turn and little smoother, assuming Travis plays?

We've seen this happen before, even when we had Hill, and fewer new pieces. And everyone panicked, and dude said we wouldn't sniff the playoffs, and other dude asked if Mahomes was a flash in the pan.

It'll be alright. They'll get it together.
