****Our Wide Receivers Suck- Official Thread****

They can’t get open, they drop passes in their hands, their jet sweeps are slow and terrible. These guys are not good.

Veach used assets. Back-to-back 2nd rd picks. And to his credit MVS was decent last year. Not great but decent. So was Toney.

But man. The drop off from MVS and Toney this year has been staggering. Justin Watson is our #1 WR. Think about that. 11 targets.

A complete failure from the top down. Veach. Andy. Nagy. Everyone. Only thing they were right about was Rice being a good pick relative to his draft position.

At this point it ain't getting fixed. They can still make the AFCCG but I don't see them winning it all again with these WR's unless something crazy changes.

Mahomes and his WRs.

On the bright side, that team at least won two games in the NBA Finals.

They let JuJu walk and didn't sign anyone to replace him. Assuming Skyy Moore and a rookie in the 2nd round would replace him was risky but they still could have moved some money to acquire a WR via trade at the deadline but they didn't do that either.

That was irresponsible roster management.

They still can win the SB but they are going to make this much more difficult than it has to be because of his bad this position group is.

Can someone explain this?

How come I see guys like Higgins, Waddle, and Jefferson (insert someone of your choice) lining up catching the ball, and right there for the next play?

If a miracle happens, and a chief's wide receiver catches the ball, that player is out drinking water, getting oxygen, or whatever.

How come none of our guys can stay on the field for more than one play? That player can be used one time and gone for the rest of the game.

Might be time for the Chiefs to mercifully retire the #11 jersey.

This is a good, honest WR squad. Salt of the earth, punch the clock, even catch/drop ratio football. We drop a couple, guess what? We'll catch a couple, too. But don't get too excited or let it go to your head. No back to back plays or consistency here, no sir. That's hubris, which this blue collar, hard working everyman WR corp doesn't have. A few plays or catches in a row, these guys, true to form, will balance it out with a couple of drops and sitting on the sideline. Yes sir, that's my 2023 Chiefs WR corp. A good, honest wide receiver room.

I think the thinking is that if our receivers are going to suck dick we will at least maintain the element of surprise and be able to keep defenses off balance, as well as allowing our receivers to make the most of their limited talents by not being asked to do much out of their comfort zone.

I think Nagy did say during the bye week that they were going to stop rotating guys so much so that Mahomes could start to get into a rhythm with some of the receivers. I think that's why we saw more of Watson this week running slants and other routes in the middle of the field, doing things that aren't really his forte. It didn't seem to be very effective as Watson didn't seem to be able to capitalize on his expanded role.

They might win the next 5. But despite the great D, and despite the problems that the other AFC teams have, this doesn't look like an offense that can win it all.

Maybe it is an offense that can game manage it's way to a title if the D plays lights out and the team doesn't lose the turnover battle...

I'm not sure where to find drops as a stat but for fun I felt like looking up the 2014 Chiefs receiving group. I think that was actually worse than this years group. Hard to tell for sure without knowing the drops and they probably didn't pass as much then as we do now.

But of course none of these 2014 guys had a TD that year

Dewayne Bowe (his final year in KC) - 60 catches 754 yards
Albert Wilson - 16 catches 260 yards
AJ Jenkins - 9 catches 93 yards
Jason Avant - 13 catches 152 yards
Frankie Hammond - 4 catches 45 yards
Junior Hemmingway - 12 catches 108 yards
Donnie Avery - 15 catches, 176 yards
