Eh...times are a changing, animation/technology has drastically improved since the mid 90's obviously. The ol' saying is nothing beats the original...but if this is done right it can be pretty damn close. The music will play a big part in this film and if they **** that up, well then it could ruin the movie. It just sucks that Beyonce is probably going to sing in the damn thing, because she's ****ing terrible.
The CGI hopefully is amazing, and so far it looks like it will be. Although some have voiced their concern re: Scar's voice. I'm willing to give give it a chance. Glad that James Earl Jones is back as Mufasa's voice though. Some things you can't replace. A movie like this doesn't have to rely on an actor's performance, unlike let's say..Aladdin, which has a good chance of being dogshit if Will Smith sucks ass in his Genie role. Can't believe Gilbert Gottfried isn't doing Iago's voice though, which I mentioned before in the Aladdin thread. Apparently he ain't too happy about Disney recasting that role to someone else either. It has been bounced around that Scar is a queer/gay stereotype.
Obviously, people are digging too deep and forgetting that Scar's body structure serves as a foil to Mufasa's body. It goes with their characters. Mufasa is a strong and straightforward lion. Scar is a physically weak and crafty character. |

Pretty much. A professor of mine tried to sell that theory. There is a lot of worthless papers trying to examine Disney films under the lens of gender studies.

Probably should've left the first rendition of Be Prepared in the movie, then. Scar wants Nala to be his queen for producing heirs. Not kidding.
"My cylinders firing with fervor, and you, my sweet, fit the part." Creepy ass Scar |

This will definitely be awesome. And regarding the opening scene of the original, I remember being absolutely blown away at the realism of the animation. We had never seen anything like that in an animated movie that I know of.
Speaking of being shocked at the animation, I can’t believe this but Toy Story came out only one year after the Lion King. There was a giant leap but I didn’t realize how close it was to other traditional animated movies they made. |
