Don't think so. We traded for a really high SPARQ guy at a position of need. Dorsey loved him some SPARQ guys.

All of these guys have been good ST's players under Toub. I would imagine that it was a move to help with depth on the field at OLB with a crowded position at ILB.

Eligwe was likely a guy Toub liked when we drafted him. I don't see an enormous drop off here as long as Toub is with us.

I guess I don't mind it. I definitely like Alexander on STs but if this guys has measurable that give him a chance at being a starter at a position of need, I'm fine with it. STs is important but much less so on kickoffs than it used to be. Personally I liked how Dorsey turned over the bottom of the roster a ton, this looks like more of the same. I guess we'll see if it was worth it soon enough.

Terez Paylor pointed out that Alexander actually fell behind Terrance Smith on the depth chart last year, so he was maybe the #6 ILB on this team.

Well, crap.

At least I get to see him play locally.

This move only makes sense if KPL plays OLB. That said, he played OLB in a 4-3. His one start was filling in for an injured Bobby Wagner a couple of years ago. KPL is actually shorter and lighter than DJA so I don't see why he would be a better option as a rush backer. KPL is also injured a lot. Seems like a bad move.

KPL 6' 0", 230 lbs

DJA 6'2", 233 lb

People shouldn't sleep on Terrance Smith though. I'd bet money he's a starter either late this year or early next. Eligwe and Smith could be a super talented duo in the years ahead.

I keep thinking that Zombo must provide some value that we don't understand. Maybe he's helping coach up other guys or something, because on the field he's a liability in the defense. They kept having him rush the passer last year and I never saw him enter the same Zip Code as the passer. It does seem like he's a better fit inside where the ball runs toward him instead of vice versa.

So Veach makes his first decision...trading a pro-bowl level ST player for OLB depth. Ballsy move...we'll see how this plays out. Common sense says you keep the players that contribute but Dorsey made moves that nobody realized until they showed up on gameday.

KC must have liked him during the draft...but Alexander had more proven worth. Not exactly a value vs. value exchange...at least on the surface. Veach still has access to Dorsey's scouting reports...at least for a season or two.

Saying it is a super bad move based on numbers is pretty short-sighted. Clearly they traded him for a reason and clearly got a guy they wanted for a reason. Saying that you don't know what that reason is doesn't make it a bad move, it makes you ignorant of the thought process. lmao already throwing Veach under the bus because the guy was good on special teams.
