Chenal is much more of a LB that is comfortable physically taking on a OL than he is reading and reacting in space.

Now if he has better awareness, it won't matter much (don't need to change directly as quickly and easily if you get to your spot every time). But don't sleep on Gay's ability to change directions with guys he has 40+ lbs on. He was damn impressive in that regard.

Chenal moves in straight lines and set angles. He's like trying to draw a picture with the straight line feature on Microsoft Paint.

Oh, and RAS is still ****ing reeruned.
Yea Chenal isn't why Gay isn't here, Dru Tranquil and Cam Jones are how that happened.

The elements that make up RAS are worth noting. The composite scores are dumb.

Little of A, little of B.

Without Chenal OR Tranquill, they're gonna need Gay back, IMO. The two of those combined can present most of what Gay could do. Chenal has the athleticism and straight line speed that Gay had, Tranquill the agility.

They used Gay pretty interchangeably between the Sam and the Will. Tranquill can't really play the Sam and I don't think you want Chenal playing the Will. If you don't have either guy, Gay fills the other side of Bolton.

But with both and more creative scheme/sub use, you can probably get what he gave you out of those two players.

Yeah Gay could move. Dude brought energy too. I don’t know if the team responded to the way he played with his hair on fire, but the dude played with abandon. Chenal I think can do similar things, but to just write off Gay is probably selling what he brought a little short.

At the end of the year if you told me they missed Gay or the LB corps was several clicks better through better gap discipline, neither would surprise me.

Yeah in space he was really good. Chenal is more stiff. Gay’s lateral agility and elite closing speed was very good so far.

He was such a sneaky weapon, especially on the pass rushes Spags would float in from time to time.

The splits are accurate, but Gay had the faster 40. He ran a 4.46, Chenal was at 4.53. Also Chenal's shuttle and 3 cone times are Pro Day numbers.

Chenal is just strong. I swear I've heard people say he's the strongest player on the team, pound for pound. You could put him on the line and he'd hold his own against guys 50 pounds heavier than him.

The RAS chart is easy on the eyes and very digestible for a quick snapshot of a guy.

The actual RAS score is pretty dumb.

I don't think we're missing Gay. He was just wildly inconsistent and for as many good games as he had he had 1 or 2 where he was just miles off and misreading everything. Great athlete, and occasionally great player. I liked him and I think he had immense potential, but there's nothing he brought regularly I think won't be replaced.

Read that Gruden was at practice today as well? Still no actual confirmation that he's somehow on the staff though, right?
