Cutler (maybe) (2006 RD 1 pick 11) Lawrence (maybe) (2021 RD 1 pick 1) Stafford (2009 RD 1 pick 1) Stroud (too early to evaluate one way or another but trending towards elite) (2023 RD 1 pick 2) Brady (2000 RD 6 pick 199) Cam (maybe) (2011 RD 1 pick 1) Ryan (maybe) (2008 RD 1 pick 3) Palmer (2003 RD 1 pick 1) Vick (maybe) (2001 RD 1 pick 1) Brees (2001 RD 2 pick 32) Luck (2012 RD 1 pick 1) Russ (2012 RD 3 pick 75) Rodgers (2005 RD 1 Pick 24) Josh Allen (2018 RD 1 pick 7) Lamar (2018 RD 1 pick 32) Mahomes (2017 RD 1 pick 10) Burrow (2020 RD 1 pick 1) Herbert (2020 RD 1 pick 6) Eli (maybe) (2004 RD 1 pick 1) Rivers (maybe) (2004 RD 1 pick 2) Big Ben (2004 RD 1 pick 11) Caleb (jury still out) (2024 RD 1 pick 1) That’s 22 QBs in 24 years and even with these 22, one can argue that some of them are neither elite nor any better than Dak. Also it’s 22 out of the 298 QBs drafted since 2000. That’s a 7% hit rate. Now if you throw in notable UDFAs that % drops even more. Now if you don’t consider all of them elite then it’s even smaller. 12 of those QBs were drafted top 5. I am not here to defend Dak, just trying to highlight just how hard drafting an elite franchise QB is. |

Next one after Purdy would have to be Geno, no? Lol, Geno is going to get $50M. If ever there were a poster child for how the QB contracts are broken, that would be it.

These QB contracts are great for us since Mahomes isn't the type to demand more money. So keep paying them is all I can say!
What I don't understand is, I know this is a bit of an exaggeration but it doesn't seem like these are performance-based contracts. It seems it's like 'whatever decent QB signs the latest contract - they will get the most.' What am I missing here? this is good for us. Mahomes is under contract for a while and he doesn't seem like he gives a shit if someone makes more than him. |
