Baseball Integrates Leaderboards
Major League Baseball officially updated its statistics leaderboard yesterday to include 2,300 qualifying men who played in the Negro Leagues between 1920 and 1948. The integration incorporates findings from a three-year research process initiated after MLB first recognized the Negro Leagues as major leagues in December 2020. The update reshapes long-standing leaderboards, with legendary power hitter and Hall of Fame catcher Josh Gibson now recognized as the all-time leader in career batting average with a .372 mark, passing prior leader, Ty Cobb. Lifetime numbers from MLB players reflecting their time in the Negro Leagues were also recognized, including those of Jackie Robinson, Willie Mays, and Satchel Paige. See a rundown of leaderboard changes here. https://www.mlb.com/news/stats-leade...ro-leagues-mlb Tacit bans in the major leagues forced Black players to create their own leagues in the first half of the 20th century. Jackie Robinson broke the sport's racial barrier when he made his debut with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 |

Ahh, makes sense now. So it absolutely is nothing but a publicity stunt, what a shocker. Always so adorable when sports organizations try and make it look like they care about society, I always find it amusing.

Cobb was a great hitter so no doubt he could. But if you increased the overall quality of pitching by even just a little bit, it's gonna eat into especially batting average. That's the unfortunate thing about having tarnished eras.

Sorry, but im good with the stats being included...BUT Minimum qualifiers, the lack of games, and the complete missing and inaccurate stats totally make this completely ridiculous. Some of these stats were laughable anyway and now it's even more of a clown show. The previous records were frauds too in alot of categories

Bo Hart once hit like .400 in a hot streak. Sample size matters

You guys have some funny answers about what "European Americans" are good at. Glad some can laugh at it along with understanding some baseball history.

I've heard that the Cobb being a world class prick story is overblown and was essentially made up by one vindictive baseball writer.
PragerU (I'm not a huge fan of them) has a pretty good non-political video on it. |

LOL, recognizing baseball was discriminating against black people is "woke"? So literally any acknowledgement of racism existing ever is woke? Do you think slavery happened or is that woke propaganda, too? You realize that when you spam your political buzzwords this incessantly they lose all meaning, right?

Funny how some of you never are in the actual baseball threads we have on here?
