So I guess by now it's safe to assume Colin Powell isn't going to pan out? That's so weird, he just vanished into thin air.

Julio Jones was overrated garbo five years ago and has nothing to do with Hopkins and I wish people would stop bringing him up.

Even when JJ was top of his game he couldn't get double figure touchdowns, except 10 once. Hopkins is nothing like him.

I've hated watching Jones play for years now. He looks completely disinterested in the sport most of the time. Even after he makes a play, he looks like he just wants to f'in go home.

Here’s an article mentioning a few players who switched teams after the age of 30. I didn’t realize some of these guys were over 30 when they went to different teams. Dhop, with his playing style, he’s going to be spectacular in the Chiefs offense for the next 2 seasons.

He won't be a Raven. GM said after OBJ that it was basically either him or Dhop and both were not happening. We have OBJ and two 1st rd WR behind him that need to be fed. (and Andrews, good 2nd TE etc..)DHop puts one on the bench, and has them probably demanding trade. Not happening. There just isn't even close to enough balls to go around. Even if the money was cheap, it just wouldn't work.

Money wise anyone (most) teams can do it if they really want to. They can void year the shit out of it and not like he is getting 150m huge deal. That isn't the issue. The issue is the timing, especially post draft. I don't think many GM's looking into their crystal ball had this possibility out there when the draft came and went with him not being moved. Gonna be very interesting to see how this plays out. Could easily be a rando team no one is thinking of. Not looking like top AFC contender that is for sure.

I analyzed all WR who retired after 2000 and had more career yardage that Deandre Hopkins, a total of 25 WR.

At this stage of their careers, (after the season which began when they were 30 years old) only four players have gained more receiving yards at this stage of their career: Randy Moss, Larry Fitzgerald, Julio Jones, and Calvin Johnson. This despite having two consecutive years with significant missed games (one due to injury and one due to suspension). So the talent is among the best ever.

Among this group of 25 WRs, at this stage of their careers, they had gained about 64% of their career yardage. Based on the average of these 25 WRs, we might expect something like the following over the next 5 years from Deandre Hopkins:

Year Age Yardage
2023 31 1300
2024 32 1250
2025 33 1150
2026 34 950
2027 35 800
2028 36 600

Or if we ignore his superior performance among this group to date, and only consider average performance from ages 31-33 we could expect:

Year Age Yardage
2023 31 1000
2024 32 1000
2025 33 900

A long term deal where we were essentially tied to him for the next three years has relatively low risk. He should be quite productive over that time span, if he can perform at an average level among players of his caliber.
