We already had a LT when we got Schwartz so he was just the cherry on top. Right now we're looking at Donovan Smith as our LT. Big difference in situation.

Was anyone thinking "Man, we really need to pick up an LT so we can keep Taylor on the right" before Smith was signed? There's a reason we all thought Taylor would be the LT when we signed him.

Obviously Veach thought we needed to sign Donovan Smith after missing out on a LT in the draft.

He’s a pretty damn good GM.

The offensive line in option 2 is better, yes. For one season. And it's not like you're getting Willie Roaf for a year. You're getting a guy who has had only twoish great years in his career, and last year when he played hurt he was bad. Even then, if he's back to being healthy, he's also always had that bad reputation for holding and penalties. Honestly, there are just as many question marks with Smith as there would have been with Taylor, the main difference is we have the luxury of playing Taylor at RT now.

And all of that is negligible if you've got freakin Hopkins.

In the end, the Chiefs will contend for a Super Bowl with or without Hopkins, just as they would if Taylor were their LT instead of Smith. And that's all that's important. Put a pretty good team around Pat, get him to the playoffs, and let him do the rest of the work.
I think Donovan Smith only costs 2-3 million doesn't he?

I agree, but I think there's a chance the Ross' beat someone out. I could see Justyn Ross in particular bumping Watson from that list. If fast-Ross shows some potential and can return, maaaaybe he could take James' spot, maybe.

I feel like Ross will end up as a healthy Injured Reserve move this year.

Only dropping three passes when Kyler Murray and Colt McCoy are throwing you the ball… even more impressive.

Actually this is just false. Many assumed it was to play RT until the multiple reports quickly following the news of the signing said it was to play LT.

Also, it's not about LT or RT. It's about your best 5. When you throw the ball as much as we do, you need a RT with a LT skill set anyways.

Go watch Taylor against Crosby, Bosa, and Mack and come back and tell me he isn't worth the money to have a guy you can put on an island against the NFL's best edge rushers.

Until I see it on game day, I'll choose to believe Taylor is the LT and they got Donovan for insurance/swing purposes.

If Veach thought he NEEDED and LT in the draft, I bet he would have got him no matter what it took rather than picking up a player who was injured and terrible last year and was just sitting at the bottom of the FA barrell.

Yes, his signing doesn’t really hinder the Chiefs from bringing in Hopkins if they want him. Albert Breer is just being a bitch like usual.

I change my mind. We’re signing him. Don’t think we have a choice. Apparently PHI has over $13 million in cap space. Can’t let DHop end up as an Eagle.

Random rumor on Bills message board that some Buffalo fan knows someone in our front office and thinks Hopkins coming to KC.

Then another poster asks how this could be since " KC is in worse cap shape".

Those poor saps. They have no idea that their own team just pushed 36 million into the future to get under cap?!
