Mecole's strengths were much more in line with trying to replace Hill with the thought that Tyreek was soon to be cut...

Based on the above you can see why Veach went with Mecole as a Tyreek fill in instead of McLaurin, despite McLaurin in hindsight, having a better career.

You can't just compare one players strengths to another players weaknesses. Terry was only SLIGHTLY slower than Mecole on speed drills and better at everything else.

Other than the fact they're both fast, I don't know how Mecole was compared to Tyreek. Their change of direction, route running, IQ and overall feel for the game are vastly different.

You're making this way more complicated than it has to be.

Andy values speed in his offense. He wants at least one of those guys. The second they thought Tyreek might be gone, they pivoted to Hardman. The second they traded Tyreek, they pivoted to MVS. At the very least, he wants the threat.

But you only took 1 strength and ignored everything else. And that one strength is BARELY better.

Mclauren ran a 4.35 40 with a 1.45 10 yard split.

Mecole ran a 4.33 40 with a 1.48 10 yard split.

So even the acceleration point doesn't stand up there cause Mclauren got up to speed faster. He was just a better prospect in every way.

I wasn't speaking to the McLaurin vs. Hardman comaprison/debate. Just explaining why they pivoted to Hardman.

What is the entire point of McLaurin? Yes, you can do this with every draft in hindsight, but McLaurin was not seen as the potential deep threat that Hardman was coming out. McLaurin was just a more polished WR with a higher floor.
