Old People Thread

Hello old people of CP! Do you ever think about wanting to talk about problems you and other old people have? Is this football forum the only place on the internet you know how to get to? Well look no further! This old man thread is here for you to talk about your trials and tribulations.

Have an itch to complain about how the young generation doesn't know what hard work is? Post it in here! Are there some birds that need yelled or do you have neighbors that play music too loud? We'd love to hear about it! Did you fill your diapers and want to complain about the poor quality of Chinese products? Please regale us!

So if you can barely see letters in this thread without zooming in, but refuse to give up your drivers license, we'd love to read what you have to tell us! Come on in, bring your Werther's candy, and folksy tales of how things used to be!

The only places I can drive to are the drug store and the library:

I can’t go walking in my own woods unless I take my lab with me, and I don’t get that cause if I fall down he just humps me.

My wife totalled her car. Not her fault and no one was hurt. But, I've been working remotely since 2013 and she's retiring in June. So we decided to not get another car. Took the money and remodeled the master bathroom. Saved $1600 a year on insurance. Take an Uber if there is a conflict.

I got mine when we picked up her meds. I have to go back in April to get the second one, and providing she's over the shingles by then, my wife will get her first one. It would be worth talking to your doctor about it IMO

So, my kiddo's best friend's mom had a birthday this past Sunday. She turned 32. That means I was a freshman in high school when she was born.

My guess Frazod is that your doctor would want you to get these shots also be sure to tell them about your past shots and how long ago it was.

I'm actually sitting outside the office right now waiting to get my second one. I'm not looking forward to it since the first shot dragged me down for a day.

I had never had one because I've never had chickenpox, but at my regular checkup the doctor said that nearly everybody is exposed to chickenpox even if they never showed up with any symptoms. Since I'm 60 now, they said I should get the vaccine and I hear that shingles are good to avoid, so here I am.

The nurse mentioned that just because I got sick on the first shot doesn't mean I'll get sick on the second shot. Fingers crossed.

Ugh. It's definitely old person day at the Rain Man house. I had my hearing test done and they're recommending hearing aids. When you have no hair and glasses, adding a hearing aid really takes you across the threshold into Old Man world.

Here's what my paperwork from this morning says. I don't know how it compares to the old shot, but if your old shot was Zostava it looks like they want you to get the new shot.

About Shingrix®
Shingrix is a two-dose vaccine that prevents shingles and post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN), a type of nerve pain associated with shingles.

Shingrix® vaccination
Shingrix® is two-dose series separated by 2 to 6 months.

Who should get Shingrix®?
Healthy adults aged 50 or older, including those who
Have had shingles in the past
Previously received Zostava (no longer available for use in the United States, as of November 18, 2020).
Received varicella (chicken pox) vaccine
Adults who are 19 years of age or older with a weakened immune system because of a disease or treatment.
Those who have or will have weakened immune systems can get the second dose 1 to 2 months after the first dose.

How effective is Shingrix®?
Shingrix® is extremely effective in preventing shingles and PHN. In fact, Shingrix® has been shown to be:
97% effective in preventing shingles in adults 50 to 69 years old
91% effective in preventing shingles in adults 70 years old and older
91% effective in preventing PHN in adults 50-69 years old
89% effective in preventing PHN in adults 70 years old and older
68-91% effective in preventing shingles in adults with weakened immune systems
