I actually think he hit his ceiling in 2013.

He threw 27 TDs in 16 games counting the playoff game.

Total TDs (incl. playoffs):

2013: 28 (16 games) 1.75 TD/g
2014: 19 (15 games) 1.26 TD/g
2015: 24 (18 games) 1.33 TD/g
2016: 21 (16 games) 1.31 TD/g

Total yards (rush/rec/incl. playoffs)

2013: 4,179 (16 games) 261 y/g
2014: 3,519 (15 games) 235 y/g
2015: 4,491 (18 games) 250 y/g
2016: 3,813 (16 games) 238 y/g

I would rather have taken a chance with an unknown.

But the fact is, almost every coach has their flaws that cost them at time, and some have QBs that mask their deficiencies.

Andy Reid with Aaron Rodgers would be considered a genius.
-During their window in Philadelphia, most felt Reid was holding the team back, even with McNabb, who was more than good enough.

-Reid's incompetencies managing the clock, time outs, challenges, and play calling are long standing and not QB-dependent.

-If Reid would be considered a genius with the right QB, why in the last 20 years has he never been successful again at identifying or developing someone into the right QB, despite drafting and signing and trading for a number of them?

Sure, that's possible but he certainly played his ass off in 2015 and was phenomenal in identifying lanes in which he could run for first downs.

If the Chiefs get that guy in 2017 (which most likely, they won't), they'll be in the AFC Championship.

But I'm staying positive, at least until the season starts.

I don't think McNabb had the game IQ of some of the better QBs in the league, which is the reason his dropoff was so dramatic as his physical capabilities declined.

I've also never thought of Reid as some great QB whisperer.

What he has done really well is work with the strengths and weaknesses of the QBs he's had under center over the years.
