Dude, we're so quick to forget.

The Chiefs themselves were that "win 9 and get in" team for over 3 decades.

Think about it this way:

5 years ago, in 2018, the Chiefs traded Alex Smith to Washington in order to move Mahomes up to starter.

Do you remember what Smith got from Washington? A new 4-year deal worth $94M. For Alex Smith. In 2018. He got a cool $55M guaranteed just for signing. This has been going on forever. There's 20+ teams every year that are chasing (and I use that word deliberately) a ring. Most of those teams would rather not lose the game than actually go and win it.

Jones decided to milk the Giants dry and they will not be able to surround him with the talent they need to hide his glaring flaws. Laughably stupid. These front offices don’t care about winning anything other than enough games to keep their jobs and keep the stands full. So glad we’re in a whole other galaxy.

I think you can leave the Bengals Bills and Eagles off that list. They're good enough to compete.

Probably throw the Jags in too. Theoretically the Chargers too, but they absolutely have to be sick of underperforming.

Alex was a complete NFL-level QB. He wasn't special in any way, but he could operate the offense and make good decisions, and not lose games.

Jones is none of those things, and he's not special. If Alex were healthy, I'd take Alex over Jones 100 times out of 100.

Exactly. When the Skins gave Smith his deal he was coming off a 4,000 yard & 26 TD season where he led the league in QB rating. On top of 5 straight solid years of leading playoff teams. When he got the deal, he was on the fringe of being a top 10-ish QB. Still overpaid, but not to this extent.

I don’t think Jones is even top 20, or if he is, it’s late teens at best. Just simply can’t fathom paying the guy this much. I’m sure Daboll signed off on it though, so he must see something in the kid. We’ll find out.

Yeah, I get that and thought about saying it but that would have taken like a whole sentence instead of two words.

Again, I'm not saying paying him this much is RIGHT. I'm saying it's reality. I mean, if you took a list of the top 32 QB's in the NFL, excluded the underpaid star players (like Mahomes) and take out the guys still on rookie contracts, how many of the guys left are overpaid?

That answer is every single one of them.

Jones is trash. He's basically Carson Wentz but without the decent years at the beginning of his career.

If the alternative is playing and paying some backup nothing and giving Jones 40M, play the backup. You're not winning anything in either case (and you're especially not winning anything if you're giving your trash QB 40M a season), so the difference is negligible.

Just an absurd contract to give out that they will be regretting almost immediately.
