Payton got very unlucky. He might've had one or two more if not for the Minneapolis Miracle and the Robey-Coleman play.
He won’t have a chance with the best QB in the league and a HC that has a legit chance to have the most wins ever for a coach.

Payton doesn’t stand a chance with no draft picks and Russ.

But please hire him

He's 'unlucky' now. That's how you explain away his literal decade of failure?

Yup, mentioned in the Andy Reid thread, but if he averages 12 wins a season he could pass Shula in less than 7 years.

You are aware that he would be coming to a tougher conference with the top 3 QBs in the league? He had Brees, in his prime and won one SB. You honestly think that despite having a declining Russ in a tougher conference with four of the top 5-6 (not counting Lawrence yet) young QBs in football will lead to SBs?

It is pretty hilarious the outright desperation Denver has now about salvaging Russ. It's over, my guys. He's been exposed. Even a 'fixed' Russ is still a product of a bygone era that will struggle immensely to have any sort of success in the NFL today considering his strengths and weaknesses.

Trading a 1st for Payton has nothing to do with salvaging Russ! KnowMo already addressed this!

He had to deal with prime Cam and Matt Ryan in his division. Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, Kurt Warner, Romo, Eli, Harbaugh's 49ers...

He didn't have it easy in N.O. That team was the Detroit Lions before he got there and he turned them into a perennial contender.

Perennial contender =\= a heavily disgraced trophy and 5 playoff wins the decade afterwards.

Plus a weak division. Easy path to the playoffs every year

Hell, Paytons playoff resume is almost as unimpressive as Russ is.

Beat the Lions as a heavy favorite
Beat the Foles Eagles twice
Beat the Panthers with a rapidly declining Newton
Beat the Trubisky Bears

That's what he has to show for a decade

Tom Peliserro with a little bomb... Harbaugh wanted to continue interviewing with the Broncos but didn't want to wait on the Broncos to finish their process. The day before Payton's interview, Harbaugh "decided" to go back to Michigan.
