That 02 FF semi caused me to get sour on Roy. He never got out of a zone even though Maryland was shooting lights out, IIRC.

KU opens as a 7-point favorite over Maryland in Thursday's Sweet 16 in Louisville. Tip set for approx. 8:40 (central) on CBS.

Landen Lucas will be huge this game. Try to guard without fouling and hit that glass.

Offensive rebounding edge tonight: Hawaii 16, Maryland 2. Maryland is 175th in offensive rebounding. Not many second chance points.

Gottlieb said Maryland is better at every position. That'd motivate me.

Gottlieb has never had one thing positive to say about Kansas.

KU could go 40-0 and win it all this year and he'd still think there was some other team out there that was better.

Man, that 97 team was awesome. That was the first ku team I really got into following.

I remember watching the Zona game at the Hearnes center while at the MO high school final four. Heartbreaking.

That team was just so good. But Sherron Collins had his worst game ever at the worst time ever.

I was at Johnnys in Lawrence, it was my SR year at KU. Girls were openly balling - wailing even - everywhere. Never seen anything that devastating to others.

As for me, my buddies and I stopped at the liquor store near the Qwik Shop in 19+Mass and loaded up and drank until 5AM. Then forgot about it all. Life goes on.

That 2002 team got out to a 13-2 lead over Maryland. That game sucked. They should have continued to pour it on. WTF happened?

I don't know that you can blame Syracuse or the refs. I blame Dean Smith messing with Roy's head the days leading up to the game. It's the only thing that can explain how KU missed something like 18 free throws. Make anywhere near their normal FT % and KU wins that game easily.

1. Led NCAA in scoring margin
2. Higher Pomeroy and Sagarin ratings
3. Went further in Tourney

Not much of an argument really

I'll share my story.

Had just moved to NYC for college and was watching at a true OG "sports bar" called the Park Avenue Country Club.

It's no longer there but it was on Park Avenue but FAR from a county club.

That being said the day was awesome up until the game of course. All I really remember was being crowded around one of those old school tube TVs mounted up above the bar fighting for a view of Mike Bibby and Miles Simon draining threes. Pierce did have an all time game but the rest of the guys didn't show up.

Personally 2003 was worse for me as I was 100% sure that team was going to beat Syracuse. One hundred percent...

I was 10 years old then, so I thought the world was over.

Until I got some Dippin dots. Then it was ok

I still to this day have yet to see the 97 Arizona game. That's probably the only KU NCAA tournament game I've ever missed. I was on a Boy Scout camping trip somewhere in bfe Oklahoma. I had my parents record it on VHS. They threw the tape away before i got home.
