Wait....who's playing SS in your 'best option'? Surely not DeJong. I don't care if he's playing SS in Memphis; dude ain't a shortstop. He plays it the same way Gyorko plays it...tolerably.

Your best option is too complicated and kinda stupid.
Admittedly, I didn't put much thought into the Gyorko portion. I guess that was a bit of a Matheny moment on my part. That ****ing Jedd missed bible study so I was pissed at him.

Someone try to convince me that this isn't the worst play in baseball history. IN. HISTORY.

Seriously, lets start with the pitch. It's 0-2 and Oh gives him a middle/middle cock-shot that should've been absolutely abused. Fortunately, he was a little middle-conscious and just hits the liner instead of the HR it easily could have been.

Then we have a routine liner to 2b that Wong flinches from when he tries to catch it like a t-ball player just learning how to field. When he picks it up he does this side-arm fling instead of just throwing the damn ball like a human being.

But now's when the fun stuff starts. Carpenter has 2 options as the ball gets there - the first is the one you immediately think of - leave the bag, make the catch and execute a simple tag on the runner. But the second is easy for anyone who doesn't have the dexterity of a 70 year old retired bricklayer. Just stretch and catch the damn thing. Watch that throw - it wasn't quite as bad as you think. Anybody with that body type and just baseline flexibility should've EASILY been able to just hold the bag and catch the damn thing.

But because Matt Carpenter evidently can't even touch his own toes, he has to leave the bag...sorta. He mostly just falls off it. Even though the glove is on his left hand and the throw is maybe 2 feet to his left, he somehow can't manage to catch it without crossing his feet up. Then he appears to remember after he catches it "oh shit, this is a baseball game and as such involves baserunners and such...". He seems genuinely shocked by the fact that there is a baserunner involved in this backyard game of catch he's having with Kolten. It completely flummoxes him, he flat out falls down and then flails his glove about wildly like a turtle flipped onto his shell.

Seriously, every single Cardinal involved in that play made mistakes that are damn near impossible to manage if you've ever played this game above middle school. Yet it took at least 5 of those kind of screw ups to avoid getting an out there.

Someone explain to me how a play can possibly be any worse than that play.

I can't get enough of you breaking down every part of that play. It pissed me off when it happened and now it just makes me laugh.

Oh, nevermind. It was from last night. Stray round fired from outside the stadium. And the woman was only grazed.

Happened yesterday apparently. Hit a woman in the elbow. Could have been much worse as a family was right in front of her.

I didn't realize a fan got shot at a Royals game years ago either. Seems they try to hush cover these things up.

It's not the fault of the team or the stadium personnel that a stray round fired from outside hits somebody inside. And the woman was grazed.

Personally I'm glad I'm only finding out about it a day after the fact. This has nothing to do with the Cardinals or baseball. It's a violent ****ing world out there and these things happen. Making a big deal out of it and scaring people out of going to ballgames won't change that.

I heard she's getting an attorney. It's not the Cards fault as all. Hell the shot was from outside the stadium. The city is a joke and am shocked this is the first time it's happened.

I saw that in the story as well. What a crock of shit. Probably hoping the team will offer a fat settlement check to keep her from whining about it on ESPN. ****ing greedy bitch.

I've never felt unsafe, but it's our own risk going downtown in that cesspool. The Cardinals do a great job in security measures.
