You're right, we don't know everything and we can't. He certainly has the arm talent but is the field reading and the leadership really there? I have major questions about it with what I can see. He doesn't seem like a poised leader. I'm not high on a QB that won't address the media. I'm not high on a QB who doesn't exhibit leadership on the sideline regularly with his teammates. I'm not a fan of a QB who doesn't look to have the fire to put a team on his back and take them the distance. He has looked like a guy out there for the fame and fortune, taking advantage of NIL over all other things. Maybe that doesn't speak to his character. Then again, maybe it does. I worry he's a bit more of a scripted passer than people seem to think and the Arizona games this year and last year really emphasize that notion for me. I think they all are to a large extent in college, don't get me wrong. I give zero shits if he paints his nails or cries. I think we're beyond that as a society. If he's gay, he's gay. Whatever. I mean, you're not wrong in that the Bears almost have to take the shot on the kid. I just think he's going to be a lot less than hoped. Maybe Kyler Murray-esque. Talented but not enough. |

Our fanbase is a HELL of a lot closer to the mainstream on this subject than the dude that trolls Communist Reddit looking for material. You should maybe lay off accusing people of being on their high horse while simultaneously looking down your nose at them. |

The talent was always there. Playing for a coach who had a 70’s offensive mindset is what held him back. |

The Dolphins and the Saints(2 storied franchises for failure). Battled for the right to gamble on a QB who was looking good. But had a very serious shoulder injury. The Saints won, twice. Sean Payton became a genius( laughable sports media been around awhile)

Holy shit.
This thread went....places. Early on, when I (at least I thought) was early on him busting, it was because he nonchalantly thought he was every bit as good as Mahomes. His lack of awareness of just how goddamned hard it is to do what Mahomes has done. After all this, I think it still remains the core tenet of what I believe. Somewhere along the way I became a ****ing old man who doesn't understand kids. Accordingly, I'm not going to cast a load of stones on fashion shit, because let's be honest - sometimes Mahomes wears some weird shit. But here's the difference - early on through his draft stuff (which admittedly was much less publicized than Williams'), dude was buttoned up - totally on his shit. He was absolutely professional and totally focused on not giving a team any red flags at all. It wasn't until he lit the world on fire that he let his personality show a tiny bit. Even still, today, as in-****ing-fallable as he is, he's still professional all the time. Plus add in that some of the draftees - especially in the green room wear some really ****ing weird shit. Admittedly I don't care enough to go back and figure out if the weird ones have busted, but I'm going to presume they didn't. I don't know that I'm willing to say because of the clothing choices he's going to bust. But I think the total lack of awareness with the clothes and shit supports my main tenant of he thinks he's already made it. And he hasn't. And I'm open to being wrong. If the dude comes in and grinds like Mahomes did, he'll probably be good if he can stay healthy. But there are enough indicators that he wouldn't, that it would scare me. Sidenote: I'll agree that Williams is the pick. Mostly because he's the consensus pick. GMs are well aware that if they go wit the consensus and he busts he has a built in excuse. If he goes out on a limb and it doesn't work out, he's probably ****ed. They're picking Williams, but if I were a Bears fan I'd be shitting my pants. |
