Andrew Luck Retires

Filed to ESPN: Andrew Luck has informed the Colts he is retiring from the NFL, per source. There will be a press conference Sunday to make it official, but Luck is mentally worn down, and now checking out.

On the other hand, any way you look at this, it's a strange situation. Obviously, playing through pain isn't his thing which is understandable. Then again, some people are simply genetically disposed to a lower level of pain tolerance ... like, for example, Curly Howard. Before Curly attained his personal, career pain threshold, Mo used to smack the living crap out of that dude and the director would demand that he repeatedly mash his head against a wall. Eventually, he just couldn't take it anymore. It was sad to see Curly go, but you understood his decision.

The timing is weird, but the most bizarre part of this story is the leak. Somebody "in the know" decided it was a good idea to leak Luck's decision during (or just prior to) the game last night. That was a dick move. First, you let the guy get beat to absolute hell because you don't provide him with an offensive line capable of stopping a nose bleed, then you rob him of his own retirement announcement decision? Shameful. Even Mo and Larry didn't do that. The Colts aren't a franchise, they're an arm of the GRU.

I thought Curly worked until he had a stroke on-set?

Maybe I'm confusing him with Shemp...

Yeah the first thing I thought of was how uninspiring he was in his pre-game "pep" talk before we kicked their assess in the playoffs.

The customer is never wrong.

Meanwhile....

Well yeah he knew what he was signing up for and that's one of the reasons why they get paid so much. These players get cut all the time and no one says anything, but God forbid a guy wants to calls it quits because he has already went through a bunch of injuries and probably has chronic pain. Why would he want to endure more hits that lead to more pain,? No amount of money can cure those ailments he might have for the rest of his life.
So many of you idiots think if you can throw enough money at something it'll go away. What fun is all that money when you hurt everyday and can't even enjoy it.

He did what was best for himself and I like him even more, because he ****ed the Colts.

It is a smart move if you aren't competitive and don't love the game sure. Still, absolutely terrible timing by Luck. If you are going to do it then do it in the offseason so you give the Colts time to adjust. Otherwise, ride it out this season at least.

Guys a selfish prick.

Damn, that sucks.

So how does that work in fantasy football, Mr. BigRichard? As a person who has never involved himself in fantasy football, I have no idea ... literally or otherwise.

Do you get a compensatory pick or something?

This is what happens when you dont protect your assets. You draft a franchise stud qb, then do **** all to protect that investment. Luck stood in those tragicomic excuses for pockets, delivering throws and getting absolutelty ****ed in half for YEARS.

Andrew Luck is not a pussy, he took some of the worst beatings a qb has endured in the NFL. His career should be measured in dog years, because they literally let this dude get ****ing crucified week after week.

It was simply too little too late by the organization getting that great line. Luck is on the cusp of an achilles tear right now, so who can blame the guy for not wanting yet another year of excruciating rehab.

Best of Luck to him, hes sacrificed his body enough for Indy. He earned every ****ing dime of that money. He probably will never have a day without pain for the rest of his life.

**** the Colts. They absolutely deserve this, you reap what you sow. They destroyed a stud qb with utter incompetence at the highest level.

No it's a smart move even if you love the game, I'm sure he loved the game considering he came from money and still put his body on the line. How is it smart to continue to do something that breaks your body down?

Because all dat money bruhhhh?!?!?!

After a certain point I'm sure the money doesn't matter. The Colts knew he was injured worse than they were letting on. He probably wasn't playing this year anyway.

I'm still struggling to process this. I guess I just believe that if it were me, I would find some way to at least fight my way through one more season, and make the retirement decision afterwards. This is a dagger through the heart of a team that had playoff aspirations. Andrew Luck will be known for this more than anything else.

Ryan Richard Grigson (born February 23, 1972) is an American football executive. From 2012 to 2016, he served as the general manager of the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League (NFL) where he singlehandedly destroyed Andrew Luck's body, mind, and soul.

Why would Luck retire? Maybe bc he doesn’t want to end up like Joe Montana:

Quote:
The former San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs player said he’s experiencing aches all over his body, which are holding him back from doing the activities he once could. In the interview, Montana mentions his hands, knees, elbows and neck all causing debilitating pain. The Hall-of-Famer said he’s had three neck fusions to date and the nerve damage has spread to one of his eyes.
