We have all the pieces to be disruptive we just need to upgrade the secondary.

Moving forward having big dudes standing with coverage responsibility just seems like a bad idea.

I'd rather they just rush, I don't like seeing Dee Ford dropping out when he is balls at it.

If Spagnuolo was a Jim Johnson disciple, what's to say he'll move back to a 4-3 under just because? If he looks at this personnel he might well decide to stay in a 3-4 and just augment it from a bend-but-don't-break to an aggressive zone blitz scheme like Johnson ran.

I have wanted to see us move against the 3-4 trend for awhile. I think you can find value in players that way.

Anyone who thinks the 4-3 won't work didn't watch Bosa and Ingram tear it up.

Or worse, Speaks trying to cover backs in the flat.

I agree.

Him or Houston. They're paid to rush the passer, so let them (and I get that OLBers have to drop in 3-4s from time to time, but Christ. Especially Ford).

Yea, I think it's just time to move away from this defense, it requires a bunch of specialized personnel and when half the league does it, that makes it a problem.

I don't remember that in his days in Philly....

Did he run that Falcon-like defense like we did with Derrick Thomas, maybe?

because the only guys that fit a 3-4 are a wildly expensive often injured Justin Houston and a completely one dimensional speed rusher in Ford that's about to cost $15-20m a year.
Also, if you want to restructure Houston and keep him, he'd be fine as a RDE in a 4-3. So you're really staying in a 3-4 to accommodate Dee Ford who gets blocked by WR's on running plays.
Your ILB'ers also don't fit the scheme worth a shit.
So literally, just to keep Ford.

Meanwhile, you have the last two #2 picks that were DE's in college that have struggled to play OLB in a 3-4 sitting there rusting.

why would you do that?

I thought the same thing and Suggs did his team friendly deal when he was 32. But never really dealt with injuries like Houston has.

Houston really wants a ring. Hopefully, he is understanding when Veach calls him into his office, or calls him.

I’d be salty if we cut him and he ends up in Indy or NE.

Petro replayed his interview from last year's SB with Spags. Interesting interview and hopefully he will put it up on their podcast page.
