There are good players on this defense. Getting Berry back healthy will be huge. And Sutton needs to either change his scheme or gtfo.

If they keep Sutton, it doesn't matter. He's old and WILL NOT adjust his defense.

This D is a total cluster f***!!
Sutton of course is the first to go as he's way past his prime and offers us nothing scheme wise which was desperately needed yesterday. Some young up and coming D coord who isn't afraid to give up a big play now and again. Risk adverse is something I don't agree with in a D coord. I agree with most in here that there are very few players that deserve to be rewarded and kept on the roster. I'm very afraid that Berry is going to come back and be a step slow just like DJ and Houston, which is the death nail for a FS. If that's the case, this D is a total gut job and the first 2 to 3 years of Pat's NFL career are not going to be easy. |

There's massive, gaping holes in every level of the defense no matter how you look at it.
DL needs to be overhauled. Jones can stay for his remaining contact years. MLBs and OLBs need to be overhauled. Houston is a great player but it's a waste for both parties for him to be here wasting away by himself on that utterly crippling contract. Ragland can stay but he still has a lot to prove, decent depth if nothing else. Safeties need to be overhauled. Parker is decent in coverage but he is an empty jersey in run support. Seems like he was better playing as a nickel/FS tweener in his first year when he got to play man coverage rather than roam the field. Sorenson, a commendable "lunch pale" guy you want to have on your roster, IS NOT A STARTER. Severely lacks range to play the field on the backend and is way too soft in the box. We need an enforcer on the back end who can lay the wood. Suttons scheme having two "Free Safeties" doesn't work when you don't have a front seven that can stop the run. CBs.. could always use more depth but if the starting corners next year is Peters & Nelson, I think we'll be OK. |

Yeah the D sucked as the game went on but it made the game winning play and it was disallowed. Unreal! Twice actually.

You guys have multiple holes at all 3 levels. There might be a good DE pass rusher out there in FA but no way you are going to find a difference making OLB in FA or in the 2nd round. Moving up to get Mahhomes really crippled you guys this offseason. Time to pay the piper. You don't have a lot of cap space either. Houston looks slow, Hali is done, Zombo was blocked by a QB to end the game, Ford isn't worth anything and his back problems are lingering. You guys are over paying for Revis who was a non-factor. Peters needs to learn how to make a tackle, stripping the ball is great but you can't give up 1st downs trying to do so with the game on the line. Only good thing is you get Berry back. It isn't Sutton's fault. If anything he has made the D better than it should have been at times during his tenure, this year included. He plays a bend but don't break style that usually works when they force a TO. Not getting any points off the 2 turnovers hurt you guys yesterday, that is on the O. |
