The most surprising thing about that game is that Madson was the winning pitcher.

My mother-in-law, who has been a Royals fan since Sept. 2014, said very seriously last night she thought the Royals would "throw" game 5 so they could win it in Kansas City. She is my wife's mother so I had to temper my response, but WTF, I think casual fans like her seriously believe that. I was all:

The lady at convenience store said basically the same thing & I was like no they need to win it tonight so that we don't have to worry about a let down at home and give the Mets a chance. Geeze The guys have put everything into it and lets finish this thing tonight. |

If I'm Ned I walk into the clubhouse before game time. I gather the team in front of a video monitor. I clear it with Salvy first, and then I simply play the last out from the 2014 World Series. Then I tell the team one thing, "take the field"
I know pregame speeches are not really a baseball thing but that's what I do if I'm Ned today. |

Seeing and sharing with my son my team winning a World Series live at home is one of the best memories I'll ever have in my life. But as any rational fan knows, you go for the win. You can celebrate with the fans in a day or two. |

Oh yeah screw that win at home thing. Let's make New York our home. And then whoever wins the MVP and endures the speech by the Chevy truck man, pile the whole team into the back of that Silverado and cruise the streets of Queens in that bad boy.
