In my county of 1.1 million in the SF east Bay Area we have 88 in hospitals for Covid.....down from a July high of 110. (which coincided with a multistory convalescent hospital having a huge covid breakout) The county is relaxing previous restrictions again.

I don't think your post was fear mongering. I do think though there are people who grab every potential negative story and react as if it is the end of the world and at the same time take ever potential positive story and act like "that's just one instance, doesn't count".

Know what I mean?

Like 1 person possibly gets re-infected and people go "SEE! SEE!!!" and they lose sight of how many have not been re-infected.

Someone in here was discussing how 7 day % of positives wasn't a good metric to look at. I'd like to hear more of your thinking on this.

Yes I know what you mean and I welcome positive news. I have been trying to balance posting bad news with good news like vaccines.

In regards to re-infections we are still early in learning about covid so I don't think people getting re-infected should shock anyone. My hope is that if you get re-infected you may not know it or be minor like a cold.

I think I've stated this before, but I have a theory on Missouri's higher positivity count.

Missouri was doing a large amount of community testing up until about a month ago when they seemingly just stopped. The numbers at these sites typically were a large number of tests done, with very low positive cases.

I'm curious if this is playing a role in the number of positives we're seeing now?

From my understanding and I could be wrong but when the positivity rate was going up they would go into rural communities with very little infection present to do community testing. Which is fine but many people think they were doing that to bring the % positivity down.

I take it that is what you are inferring?

I'm not inferring they were doing it intentionally, (or maybe they were hell idk). I'm saying the low % positive was a byproduct of them mass testing areas and getting like 30 positive cases out of 2500 tests

Yeah we are on the same page, I don't know if they were doing it intentionally or not. But I wouldn't be surprised because they were trying to keep the positivity rate down to justify reopening.

We'll see what happens I suppose. I know we had a pretty good test run back in April when hospitalizations were right around this number.

At least we've got more experience dealing with the disease now. Hopefully we can turn the corner sooner rather than later.

Woah woah woah.... hang on a second.

There's a new "suspected COVID-19" hospitalizations being added into the mix now.

770 confirmed
237 suspected
