Let's talk about the 49ers (Super Bowl Edition)

Well Chiefs vs Packers is what I had hoped for, but that's not happening.

Let's talk about Chiefs vs 49ers here.

They probably were the most talented, dangerous team in the NFC around week 10.

But Brees just can't maintain anymore. He missed half the season and was still gassed by week 17.

The stats were still good because he's whip-smart and has a HC that was awfully good at working with what Brees had left in his arm, but there was just no zip on anything he threw.

If Bridgewater starts that Vikings game w/ Hill doing the same gadget stuff he was doing, the Saints win that game. The biggest problem NOLA had at the end was Drew Brees.

9 times. Unable to get into a tie or lead on the Seahawks last year because the KC secondary kept getting torched by Russell Wilson. KC was down 31-20 and lost 38-31.

I do believe all 9 of those double digit deficits led to 30+ points for the Chiefs. Getting the lead in 8 of 9 is pretty impressive. They won 5 of the 9, which is 55%. The average NFL win percentage after trailing by double digits? 14%

If memory serves, Watkins (maybe it was someone else?) and Conley both lost fumbles to Seattle and Benjamin dropped an easy TD pass that forced us to settle for a field goal. Mahomes’s supporting cast let him down big time in that one.

The energy in that game was weird. IIRC, they didn't need the game for the 31 seed and they approached it differently and didn't seem to have the usual focus. That was also the game Ward and Smith started at corner for the first time.

Pretty sure it was Damien Williams that had one of the fumbles.

2 fumbles lost. Pretty big in a 7 point game with 0 turnovers by the other team.

What more can you ask for in a Superbowl (besides a win for your team)? Good luck fans.
The 14th ranked defense taking away the 2nd ranked running game while simultaneously shutting down the 7th ranked passing game would be nearly unheard of.

The 2nd ranked defense shutting down the 1st ranked offense is basically par for the course in Superbowls.

It really is an epic showdown. I looked over the 49ers box score, and the Saints (and to a lesser degree the Rams the second time) are the only team that put up impressive yardage totals against them. The Niners did completely shut down many teams' passing attack. And we are the team that set the NFL record for yards per play in 2018, and now that we are healthy, we're back to that level.

It'll be interesting because the 49ers gave up the least amount of yards in the air of any team since 2009.

Yeah, you're right. Sucks that the Chiefs are a 10 point underdog in Vegas.

Ya know I just thought of this (no idea why it took me so long), but really when the trolls show up every week we really should just agree with every reeruned thing they say. All they do is spew nonsense and then double down on it. And if we try to respond with reason they just come back with th yet more nonsense.

Besides it would be that much sweeter when our “26th ranked run defense” stones their “1st ranked run game.”

Kamara/Murray would get the edge on Damien Williams, but He’s pretty even with Freeman at this point.

The Chiefs OL may not be better than the Saints, but it is just as good in pass protection.

The Saints have really good weapons, but the Chiefs TE and WR2-3 are clearly better.

You’re straying far from your “I want to have a good conversation and learn” intent and into troll territory, by the way.
Haha, saying Kamara "would get the edge on Damien Williams" is about as trollish as it gets. Alvin Kamara is top 5, if not top 3 RB in the league. He's a superstar and Damien Williams would struggle to even make the Saints RB rotation at all.

Hell, he wouldn't even standout in our RB rotation and it's full of UDFA's.

It's not debatable that Thomas and his 150 catches and 1700 yards is better than Hill. Like you said, the Saints don't have a great WR2-3 or TE next to him, so he's doubled all game, and he still crushed the league... even with Bridgewater at QB. I like Hill, but let's be real.

Exactly. We've been doing this for 20 years and it's only gotten worse in the last 2 because the Chiefs are now so good.

They're not going to stop and reason doesn't work so we might as well just tell them we'll accept our ass whooping and move on.

The Vikings had the 5th ranked D, even with their corners in steep decline. Their linebackers, edge rush, and safeties are as good as their is in the league. You don't beat them with trick plays.
