It's not that Villanova is making these shots at any kind of ridiculous clip (it's 50%, which is great but not unheard of). It's that they are taking so many of them (26).

Before the game, I wanted KU to take more threes than Villanova. Figured that would be the only chance to keep up with what might be the greatest offense the NCAA has ever seen. And yet we've taken 6. Self is getting outcoached tonight in trading twos for threes.

This is the way the game is heading and everybody is going to have to adjust to the Villanovas of the world if they want to keep up.

I don't hate the approach of going into Doke early and try to get fouls on Spellman, but yeah, we need more motion and more 3's.

They are tied for most 3 point makes in a final four half. They are making a shit ton.

Spellman doesn't foul. The entire Villanova team doesn't. Your only chance is to try to keep up the pace of scoring and the only way to do that for Kansas (with their personnel) is to jack as many threes as possible. Wright has done a great job of coaching up his players to take those shots away tonight, though (and it seems Self has not done the same).

Yeah, that's because of the volume they've taken (an absurd 26), not because of the efficiency (a great 50% but this happens in games often).

That's what basketball is these days at the highest level too (Rockets take more threes than twos and don't really care about the quality of the shot itself from three). Villanova is going to almost singlehandedly push the game in this direction in the NCAA with their success these past three years (looking likely that another title is on the way).

Eh they don't average 50% from 3 either. It's worth a look.

I get the matchup, but you dance with the girl that brought you and give Doke a chance to see what he can do.

What other Final Four games are you thinking about? They're kind of at an historic pace right now.

They average 40% (10.4/26). So they've made only 2.6 more threes than you'd expect they would normally make. It's mostly a volume thing and that's simply the way basketball is heading.

Self coached by matchup in the first four games. It's why Lightfoot didn't step foot on the floor. Why not tonight?

Yeah because they are taking threes at a historic pace, not because they are making them at a historic pace. I can guarantee you many teams have shot 50% on threes at half before. The difference is they are jacking them up like the Houston Rockets and Self is allowing them to.
