Cant recall ever seeing a thread on this topic so i thought it was time we had one... this thread is dedicated to military weaponry of any kind, from any era or nation.

There is a seemingly endless array of novel, fascinating, revolutionary or even ill-fated hardware out there so subject material shouldnt be a problem.

I agree about some kind of service being mandatory.

He is actually a heavy bomber mechanic in training but got to go up on this refuel exercise.

He just got to Fairchild AFB in Washington in late October.

Its wishful thinking on my part, your angle is valid in the American context

My point is that military service can be such a great eye opening, multi-cultural, self affirming adventure experience... its the best glue any nation has for holding itself together

Bet you could ask every veteran here, and almost all would tell you they wouldnt trade that experience for anything

Being forced to work under threat of imprisonment is slavery. It doesn't matter if you are paid or not. Israel does it out of necessity and even then parts of their population are not required to serve like the Druze.

Here is a very interesting piece that talks about a Russian pilots claim that they were always able to get on the 6 of American fighters over Syria

Whats even better though, is to read through the 100 or so comments... Americans and people from several other nations like Israel mixing it up nicely with Russkie trolls

You're looking at it all wrong

It sure hasnt hurt a nation like Israel

The point is that not only does it strengthen a nation by giving all citizens a military background that can be called upon in an emergency after their initial service

It strengthens it by exposing all citizens to other citizens from every walk of life that they would likely never know otherwise, mixing them all together in pursuit of a common goal... allowing them all to see the value in each other
