*****The Patrick Mahomes Thread*****

IT ****ING HAPPENED

OP UPDATE:

Because of all the interest in this thread, I've place all of the video content of Patrick Mahomes II's college career, and draft day goodness into a single post that can be found here. Enjoy!

Niners chose mega bust Solomon Thomas #3 overall when they needed a quarterback in the 2017 Draft and could have chosen Mahomes. It has now cost them 2 rings. That’s a very tough pill to swallow on their end.

And when they traded up to #3 to draft what they thought was their version of Mahomes in Trey Lance… that was a disaster as well.

Mahomes and Pop were trading back and forth throughout the game for Chiefs postseason rushing king.

Mahomes 19 yard run got him atop the list again

Brady's the same way. Hell, Jordan is. These guys were as great in the 2nd half of their career, when 'on the downhill slide' as they were as they entered and were in their primes.

Now maybe Mahomes is the exception to the rule; a Sandy Koufax or Pedro Martinez. A guy so preternaturally good that he's an all-timer based on a short body of work. Hell, we KNOW he is. But if he wants to clear Tom Brady in the eyes of many, it'll likely be what happens AFTER he's 35 that decides it. That's how crazy the numbers Brady put up were. Not because of what he did, but how long he did it and how long he sustained at that level.

I re-watched that draft a couple years back and it was hilarious watching guys swoon over John Lynch for that Thomas pick. One guy (maybe Mayock?) actually said "wait a minute - don't they need a QB?" but even he was shocked they didn't take Watson.

And had that team taken Watson, they wouldn't be here. Because they'd have extended him and they don't have CMC. They may not have Deebo. They almost certainly don't have Bosa because they don't go 4-12 in 2018 with Watson at QB.
