Tomorrow, I pack my entire life into a 17-foot U-Haul van, attach a trailer with my similarly fully-loaded car loaded on it. Then I drive 10-12 hours from Aspen Hill, Maryland, through the traditionally nightmarish DC area afternoon outbound traffic, and west to Hancock (that is, "the skinny part" of Maryland), where I have a choice of 68 West, or continuing on 70 West, which diverts north at this point.
68 West is pretty good, except they decided to deal with the mountains not by blasting huge channels out of them so we could drive through with ease. Instead, they just built their roads over the mountains, resulting in some twisty twiny roads. Otherwise, it's good. Staying on70, however, means *shudder* Breezewood. Breezewood is a trap. The Interstate ends here in a stop light. The roads are suddenly festooned with turn lanes, which are not big enough really to hold a truck-and-trailer. All of that is surrounded by several strip malls, essentially, which - if you are daring enough to try to turn in to one - generally do not let you out, due to traffic snarlage. Oh yes. It's dog eat dog. After that, the streets are nicely broad and flat and level. It does have tolls, which will slow me down I admit. Plus it costs money. And now, I succumb to unconsciousness, as I have several times in the last few minutes, G'night. |

So, a friend of mine is serious about wanting to move to Chicago. He has a friend who is willing to make the move. I told him I would too, if he waited a year. Was I only kidding?

1.) Under 35 2.) Don't own a house 3.) Don't have a spouse/partner to consider 4.) Don't have a pet to drag along Do it. When you're older you'll have plenty of time to get sedentary. The time to do new things is when you're young. A young guy who works with me (around mid-20s IIRC) is going to lose his position soon. He fits all those requirements. We tell him he should move to NYC, where he already goes at least monthly if not twice a month. He seems hesitant and fearful to do it. I think if he doesn't he'll be sorry down the road. |

I've always had my heart set on KC. However, if I made this move, I know I would have someone to live with. I don't know of anyone in the KC area looking for a roommate.

I'm going to be single forever. Men aren't worth the effort.

Might as well be fat if men aren't worth the effort.
